Sandra Barclay was an officer serving in the Eridani Light Horse during the thirty-first century.

History[edit]

Academy[edit]

Barclay would attend the NAIS.[3]

Seventy-first[edit]

Barclay was promoted to command of the rebuilt Seventy-first Light Horse Regiment in 3055. She proved herself an able commander, but the heavy losses her unit suffered during the Battle of Coventry eroded her confidence.[5] Unknown to the rest of the ELH command, witnessing the brutal death of Daniel Umsont caused her to suffer from PTSD.[6]

Several Clans began whittling the Seventy-first down with Trials of Possession for the Seventy-first's equipment and personnel. Beginning in December of 3067, Colonel Barclay started a friendly relationship with Clan Goliath Scorpion Khan Ariel Suvorov, who gave the Seventy-first logistical support and frequently visited the Star League enclave of Lootera on Huntress. Colonel Barclay also began a romantic relationship with Goliath Scorpion Star Commander Nerran of the Crimson Seeker Star.[4]

Despite these friendly relations, Galaxy Commander Rik Myers made an unauthorized batchall to the Seventy-first, declaring a Trial of Possession for a battalion of troops from the Seventy-first, the Star League Embassy on Strana Mechty, and Lootera. The Seventy-first performed well in the Trial, reducing Galaxy Commander Myers' forces to a Binary of troops. Colonel Barclay offered Galaxy Commander Myers hegira. Myers refused, and soon Barclay faced Myers' Fire Scorpion in her Cerberus. She sent a Gauss rifle round into his cockpit, killing him. Star Colonel Malachi Posavatz then accepted Barclay's offer of hegira.[4]

On 2 February 3068, Colonel Barclay challenged the Goliath Scorpions to a Trial of Possession for her unit. They agreed to simulator battles for infantry and armor crews, but Khan Suvorov insisted that the Trials for MechWarriors and Aerospace fighter pilots had to be live fire. A few of the Seventy-first's personnel departed with the Star League ambassador and his staff to return to the Inner Sphere, but most remained. They agreed to hold the Trial on 10 July 3068, and the first side to lose 50% of its forces would be defeated. Nineteen Lances of the Seventy-first fought against sixteen Goliath Scorpion Stars.[4] The Seventy-first lost, and Colonel Barclay, along with her entire command were taken as bondsman by Clan Goliath Scorpion.[4][7]

Goliath Scorpions[edit]

Sandra became abtakha and became a Goliath Scorpion Warrior.[7] By 3071, Sandra had been promoted to Star Colonel and assigned command of the First Eridani Lancers.[1]

According to Khan Ariel Suvorov in February of 3075, all of the Scorpions' warriors who originated as abtakha taken from the Eridani Light Horse were officially determined to be dead.[8] One notable exception was Charles Greely; who was one of the handful who managed to survive the Wars of Reaving.

Sandra Barclay would posthumously be honored with the creation of the Barclay Bloodname.[9]

Published Works[edit]

Sandra was also a published author, with New Avalon Publishing Company, having written a firsthand account of the Battle of Coventry in 3058, called Boots and Saddles: The Eridani Light Horse on Coventry.[10]

BattleMech[edit]

Sandra Barclay piloted a Cerberus during Operation SERPENT and through the last battle of the Seventy-first when it was taken as bondsmen by the Goliath Scorpions.[11][4]
