The narrator, [[Zander Shienzè]], is a member of the [[House Shienzè|Shienzè clan]] on [[New Home]]. He bitterly remembers how his family had once stood for this world during the [[Jihad]], but now the family has lost the title of baron. He recovers his family's ''[[Spider]]'' and escapes from the forces sent by planetary governor [[Clarence Whitman]] to capture him. Chased by two [[Demon Medium Tank|Demon]] tanks, one [[SM1]] and four [[Saxon]]s. He travels to the Ashentines (an offshoot of the New Home's Great Spine Mountains) simulating he is escaping while in reality he is sending them to his trap, set in graveyard where the [[Word of Blake]] forces on New Home made their last stand. Hidden [[infantry]], plus a [[Fox (Combat Vehicle)|Fox]] and a [[Joust]], successfully ambush his enemies even though they have deployed [[Grenadier]] battle armor and were able to capture the SM1 by the usage of a suicide squad armed with anti-personal grenades that are thrown inside the vehicle.

The short story Shades by Loren L. Coleman was first published as intro fiction in Classic BattleTech Miniatures Rules. It has a sequel story of sorts in Fortune's Son, the intro fiction piece from Record Sheets: MechWarrior Dark Age I which was published in the same year.

The narrator, Zander Shienzè, is a member of the Shienzè clan on New Home. He bitterly remembers how his family had once stood for this world during the Jihad, but now the family has lost the title of baron. He recovers his family's Spider and escapes from the forces sent by planetary governor Clarence Whitman to capture him. Chased by two Demon tanks, one SM1 and four Saxons. He travels to the Ashentines (an offshoot of the New Home's Great Spine Mountains) simulating he is escaping while in reality he is sending them to his trap, set in graveyard where the Word of Blake forces on New Home made their last stand.
