Description
All spacecraft in the BattleTech universe fall in the category of either JumpShip, DropShip or Small Craft. The latter describes any spaceworthy vessel of up to 200 tons in mass that can be docked inside a small craft hangar bay.
There are literally hundreds of different types of small craft in operation throughout the peripheries. Many, but not all, are capable of atmospheric operations. Small Craft range from tiny escape pods or lifeboats to shuttles and long-range craft. The K-1 DropShuttle, although generally considered a Small Craft, actually meets the criteria for a DropShip and sports a docking collar, falling into both classes at the same time and blurring the distinction.
Technically, the Small Craft category also includes Aerospace Fighters, but these are usually treated as a distinct class of spacecraft and the term Small Craft is then meant to describe those which are not Aerospace Fighters.
