History
The DCS Star Spirit was a Narukami-class destroyer in service with the Draconis Combine Admiralty during the First Succession War. The Star Spirit was a part of the invasion force commanded by Tai-sho Hiroshi Pederson responsible for the invasion of the key Lyran Commonwealth industrial system of Skondia in February 2787.[1]
Pederson's invasion force consisted of forty-five WarShips including the Star Spirit and a substantial number of supporting ships and anticipated an easy conquest, but instead encountered a major naval force of almost three hundred ships - including fifty WarShips - commanded by Admiral Seamus van Hatten, assembled just days before as a result of the devastating Free Worlds League attack on the Bolson Shipyards at New Kyoto. The resulting four-week battle was one of the largest naval engagements to be fought between the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine during the Succession Wars.[1]
The battle saw the Lyran forces reduced to a third of their original numbers, whilst half the Combine ships were lost; during the battle the Star Spirit and a sister ship, the DCS Bladewind, were responsible for crippling Admiral van Hatten's flagship, the Tharkad-class battlecruiser LCS Impregnable.[1]
