Strana Mechty IV

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Strana Mechty is a planet in the Kerensky Cluster. Its name is Russian for "Dream Country" (Страна Мечты). It is considered an almost sacred world to the Clans. It was the site where Nicholas Kerensky and his band of 800 others managed to escape, fleeing the chaos of the Pentagon Worlds, which the Exodus Fleet first settled. Nicholas Kerensky founded the rigid social structure of the Clans on Strana Mechty and the world can be seen as the birthplace of the Clans. The world has an enclave for each Clan and the Hall of Khans, a place where the different Clans can meet to debate issues and appoint an ilKhan. The Hall of Khans is surrounded by individual Clan Halls. Strana Mechty also contains a Gene Center that contains the genetic material of every Clan's Bloodnamed warriors as a backup in case a Clan's Gene Center is destroyed.[2]

Planet History

The planet was surveyed in 2792,[4][5] colonized in 2793,[6] and was prospering by 2795.[5] By the outbreak of the Pentagon Civil War in 2801, it had become a thriving colony world capable of sustaining several adapted Terran species which would become Clan totems.[3]

On 8 June 2802, the Second Exodus began landing on Strana Mechty. Almost overnight, Strana Mechty's population went from 55,000[1] to about a million. Work began on Katyusha City, named for the late Katyusha Kerensky.[7] The city was shaped like a giant five-point star, which eventually became home to one of the five castes. A new military academy, officially the Katyusha City Military Academy but often called the DeChavilier Military Academy, was formed, and scientific and exploration work began anew.[8]

Cultural changes were not always well-received, such as the fostering system.[9] The immense pressures placed on the industrial infrastructure led to many difficulties and tragedies before reforms could eventually be fully enacted.[10] Incentives were offered to those who took part in arranged reproduction, and the birthrate climbed significantly.[11] The final break with the old ways came in late December 2814, when an assassin wounded Nicholas Kerensky and wounded and killed others during a parade through Katyusha. After that, supporting the Kerensky vision was the only socially acceptable option.[12]

On 20 March 2821, the Clans gathered on Strana Mechty for the final time before Operation KLONDIKE.[13]
