Type of Aliens[edit]

I was wondering, would this be restricted to just sentient aliens, or would it also cover non-sentient alients like the various alien animals? Onisuzume 06:22, 9 February 2009 (PST)

I'd stick to sentient aliens. Non-sentient aliens are a dime a dozen in BT and, IIRC, there's even rules for creating them (CBT:Companion?). A separate "Alien Animals" might be created to addressed the many critters BT has featured over the years.--Cray 07:56, 9 February 2009 (PST)
As you will have noticed, the idea to create this article arose out of the recent discussion at Talk:Far Country. The article is not meant to cover the aliens of BT per se, but rather to give an overview. Perhaps a more correct title would be "On the presence of alien lifeforms in the canonical BattleTech universe". And I think all that can be said on the issue is covered in the article, including the info that non-sentient comic-style critters are, with Cray's words, "a dime a dozen in BT". (Cray, if you can find the source of the Roll-Up-Your-Alien Construction Kit then please add the info to the article! I dimly remember something linke that, perhaps in Explorer Corps?)
However, as you can see, I have introduced a category on "Alien species". And that should encompass anything that has a name or a sufficiently detailed description, from the sentient Tetatae and "Swamp people" (no proper name known) to the animals that the Clan names are based on (Ghost Bear, etc.), to the Jardinian Fire Cat, Joanna's (?) pet critter, to the "T-Rex" of Suk II. Going to make a number of such articles myself. Frabby 09:45, 9 February 2009 (PST)
The creature creation rules are in the Classic BattleTech Companion (Wizkids publication 10975), pages 130-131. The entire critter section covers pg 117 to 149 and has several dozen example creatures (44, if I counted correctly). --Cray 16:05, 9 February 2009 (PST)
