Changes from Beta to Final

Hello all, I noticed that the Design Quirks that were added to each Mech page (I haven't gone through all of them, so I don't know if someone completed all of them) are actually from the Beta version of this manual and have not been updated to ones listed in the Final version. I changed a few based on the Final version (example, Akuma, Anubis), although someone brought up a point while I was editing. It may be a good idea to list the changes somewhere detailing what changed from Beta to Final for historical purposes. Either 1. Add this information to the Note section of each where there was a change in Design Quirks from Beta to Final or 2. Create this information on the Manual page as a table detailing Beta and Final versions. Thehawk (talk) 23:25, 21 April 2018 (EDT)

While I do like the idea of a synopsis between the Beta and final edition, I also have to point out that it's a massive undertaking, as the changes were substantial. (I never personally had a proper Beta document myself, only the factchecker draft, which may contain yet more differences and can't be used for such a comparison.) Do we need the Development Notes?

Whilst interesting to some people, I can't really see this section being of much value to the vast majority of wiki users. Do we need it?--Dmon (talk) 21:58, 4 December 2018 (EST)

If this was not a section unto its own then the same content would probably go under "Notes". As it's not a big section, I'd say we should keep it. Frabby (talk) 03:32, 5 December 2018 (EST)

2nd Edition

Given what was said about the upcoming seconde edition of this book ("not enough changes to call it a revision but definitely more than errata"), I suggest to treat that upcoming second edition as a separate product and give it its own article. Thoughts? (Myself, I've only bought the PDF edition so far and am unsure if I will actually buy the updated book when it comes out. There is a certain collector's urge towards buying both in hardcopy, but then again there's better uses for my money...) Frabby (talk) 03:31, 5 December 2018 (EST)

I do not really see it doing much harm if we add it as a 2nd Edition but historically in BT terms 2nd Editions of things tend to be completely new books with a shared title. Are all the "new cover" editions of the core books minor improvements over the original printings or also featuring a lot of revisions?--Dmon (talk) 06:57, 5 December 2018 (EST)
Revisiting this. The vibe I got - mostly because of the new cover - is that the 2nd printing is close enough to a Revised edition, and different enough from the 1st printing, to warrant its own article. Frabby (talk) 04:45, 28 January 2019 (EST)
I say go for it then, no such thing as too much BattleTech after all :-p--Dmon (talk) 05:40, 28 January 2019 (EST)
