When installing MechWarrior 4: Black Knight, the game's backstory says Damon Squire & Karl Sonntag opposed Duke Ian in the Kentares Senate; both Squire & Sonntag left Ian's side & formed the Kentares Free Army, so Squire did survive his failed attempt to rescue Joanna Dresari. The MechWarrior "Squire" whom Eric McClair rescued while "just passing through" & later returns the favor, is very likely intended to be Damon Squire.
