Jordan is a Surname not Middle name[edit]

For years I think a lot of us have been working on the basis that Jordan was a middle name (she was even used as an example for middle names in Policy:Article Naming). Whilst fact-checking some stuff about Pavel Rizik I discovered a scene in Warrior: Coupé where Pavel finds her hotel room because she uses a name that was a "close match for her maiden name". As such I have renamed the "Elizabeth Jordan Liao" to simply "Elizabeth Jordan" with a redirect. Although not technically canon, I am also adding "Elizabeth Jordan-Liao" (with a hyphen) to acceptable names for the character.--Dmon (talk) 01:06, 11 October 2021 (EDT)

Concur with the assertion that Jordan is her maiden name; good catch. But shouldn't the main article still be Elizabeth Jordan Liao, as that's the name she is referred by in all (?) sources? Frabby (talk) 06:08, 11 October 2021 (EDT)
Nice work updating the article Frabby! And I am trying to use maiden names where I can.--Dmon (talk) 13:10, 11 October 2021 (EDT)
Thanks :) Regarding the name, we don't usually default to the maiden name though. According to Policy:Article Naming the "best known" name should be used. In her case, I reckon that is Elisabeth Jordan Liao. Frabby (talk) 15:08, 11 October 2021 (EDT)
I have wanted to update the "best known" policy for a while to lean into using maiden names more. Most "big name" characters tend to keep their names anyway (see Candace Liao and Naomi Centrella as examples), so the maiden name issue is a fairly rare one with Elizabeth likely being the highest profile character thus far. My reasoning is that when the policy was written (2011) it was still pretty common for characters to not have an infobox at all, we have a fairly robust system now that includes family connections as standard.--Dmon (talk) 19:19, 11 October 2021 (EDT)

Revisiting this since there are now two Elizabeth Jordans, and currently they're disambiguated by appending their affiliation which I find unelegant. Since one of them was apparently properly named Elizabeth Jordan Liao for the last decade of her life, I suggest using that as her article's name. Frabby (talk) 02:42, 6 January 2023 (EST)
