Laser lore/sources[edit]

A spot for laser lore/sources for people to supply so that the editors whom make it pretty can put them in.--Koniving1 (talk) 01:07, 29 September 2019 (EDT)

  • Bulldog Large Laser - TRO 3026 (reg and revised). Proprietary, built by Bulldog industries for the Bulldog to lower costs by reducing its need to purchase weapons from other companies. The design uses a powerful capacitor to release energy in a krypton gas container. Bulldog has tested other systems, but got their best results from Krypton Gas. (The design is referred to as "a typical design", I take it as meaning unremarkable as in general Bulldog's products are pretty much nothing to write home about.)
It is worth noting that lasers which use a gas as the medium, in particular Krpton Gas Lasers are horribly energy-inefficient and produce excessive waste heat in real life. It is likely that the Bulldog Large Laser produces an excessive amount of heat.
  • Cyclops Eye Large Laser - Unique for not requiring a long focusing barrel as many other large lasers produced during the Star League era. It uses a combination of a focused beam of light and a stream of particles to deliver both laser and kinetic energy. Effectively a hybrid of PPC and Large Laser. Overall the performance is comparable to a a laser model from Diverse Optics or Martell. The Drilson entry TRO 3026 (reg and revised) TRO 3039. Also mounted on some models of Wolfhound 1 (Battlepack: The Fourth Succession Wars page 37."
A defunct website lists the Cyclops Eye as being unaffected by reflective armor, but also not gaining any additional effectiveness against armor meant to stop kinetic forces. Said website contained custom rules and quirks for Battletech's more uniquely detailed weapon brands. I'll try to dig out the name of it soon.
