- ProtoMechs are a creepy technology where crippled pilots are more or less built into the machine, brain-in-a-vat style. And this product is the only (iirc) source where WoB ProtoMechs appear; the WoB are a step or two weirder than even the Clans. My understanding was that ProtoMech pilots had very short expected lifespans, and would probably be fed via IV tubes while inside the machines, which they wouldn't expect to leave again.
