Nice but needs some grammar checks from someone who is familiar with the material. — The preceding unsigned comment was posted by 86.7.73.27 (talkcontribs) on 12 November 2009.

Change the surname?

Now that Nikol has been named Captain-General of the FWL, should the article be renamed "Nikol Marik"? --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 21:09, 14 July 2022 (EDT)

I'm so far behind: what was the last published source in which he was referred to by that name?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 06:42, 15 July 2022 (EDT)
Jessica Halas, her mother, reunited (most) of the FWL and was named the Captain-General in 3139. This was covered in To Ride the Chimera. Halas was name taken by the "fake" Thomas Marik when his origins were revealed, so the whole lineage became complicated. However, it's the Halas line that rebuilt the FWL and claimed the Marik name. After Jessica's assassination Nikol became the head of the FWL. She is called a Marik in Empire Alone. Her mother should probably be renamed as Jessica Marik as well. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 15:18, 15 July 2022 (EDT)
To me it's clear that the name change is legit, based on your description here. I'd support it.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:31, 15 July 2022 (EDT)
I have mulled this over for about 3 years at this point. I believe that the names should stay as they are. We have redirects from both Marik names but neither character is actually a true marik by birth so the names do not fit. This is why we have "Also known as " as an option in the infobox. The DA Marik situation is a mess, having house Halas-Hughes under their own name helps with tracing the line.--Dmon (talk) 15:42, 15 July 2022 (EDT)
My argument is that the Halas family has claimed the name Marik by right of conquest (well, politics since it's the FWL). It looks like all sourcebooks moving forward will refer to Nikol as "Nikol Marik" and won't mention the Halas part unless the narrative needs it. This odd war of dynastic succession is basically over and Nikol is THE Marik. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 15:53, 15 July 2022 (EDT)
