Talk:Randolph P. Checkers

Which Backer?

Okay, I actually know exactly which backer this character is based on, and I'm sure the rest of us who spend time watching BattleTech-related videos on YouTube know too... The question is, do we plug the guy's YouTube channel somewhere? I noticed an earlier edit snuck in a direct reference to the Black Pants Legion – the name of said channel – but it was swiftly removed an edit later as it wasn't established info for the canon character version of his persona, I suppose.--Akamia (talk) 01:29, 4 November 2020 (EST)

As it stands Sarna rules say that anything not published in a canon or recognised semi-canon source has no place in an article. Black Pants Legion was removed because of this, but there are some calls to be more lenient concerning the canonized KS stuff. This is subject to ongoing debate at the moment so we do not have a policy set yet. As for a plug, How I would handle it would be reword the Notes section to say something like "In universe persona of prominent BattleTech youtuber Tex's real name (I don't actually know it)" and then create a real person article as a seperate thing where BPL could be linked.--Dmon (talk) 02:19, 4 November 2020 (EST)
I do believe Randolph Checkers is likely Tex's real name. He's used it many times in other stuff he does on the BPL channel; I recall seeing the name in his Space Station 13 videos, and probably has used it even before he started his exquisite BattleTech lore video series. Although, I suppose that alone isn't evidence enough, necessarily... Someone could probably ask him directly via Twitter or YouTube, if they're feeling up to it.--Akamia (talk) 02:33, 4 November 2020 (EST)
