Description

Technical Readout: 3057 (TRO:3057) is the first book in the series of Technical Readouts (and after DropShips and JumpShips the second publication at all) that focuses on aerospace units, such as DropShips, JumpShips, WarShips, Small Craft, Aerospace Fighters, OmniFighters, Space Stations and conventional aircraft. It is based on BattleSpace rule sets and aims on thoroughly consolidating space vessel designs and clarification on changed rules (in comparison to older AeroTech) in one book, including record sheets for BattleSpace.

The book, purporting to be an Explorer Corps document from 3057 by one Dai-i Otanashi Haruka, was first published in 1994 with a same cover second and third edition^[1]. The TRO:3057 was reissued in 2004 as Technical Readout: 3057 Revised.^[2]

The German edition was published as Hardware-Handbuch: 3057 with largely unaltered content (see Technical Readout: 3057#German Edition below).

Remarks on content

The title comprises descriptions of 144 units in total, all space vessels. Some have been previously published in older TRO's', some units or at least variants of units being published for the first time. It contains:
- 40 DropShips, 30 Inner Sphere models and 10 Clan models,
- 11 JumpShips, 8 Inner Sphere models and 3 Clan models,
- 22 WarShips, 5 Inner Sphere models and 17 Clan models,
- 8 Small Craft in use both in Inner Sphere and amongst the Clans,
- 35 AeroSpace Fighters (not counting variants),
- 12 OmniFighters of the Clans,
- 3 Conventional Aircrafts,
- 13 Space Stations of various function.
The in-universe presentation (Briefing) is given by Dai-i Otanashi Haruka, 6 January 3057 from Explorer Corps
The title a variety of additional content not listed in the Table of Contents:

Notes

Technical Readout: 3057 is an unusual TRO in that it carries no land units. Further it changed the artwork from the earlier Technical Readout: 2750, which did not go over well with some fans. However, it did well enough in sales to allow for the creation of JumpShip and WarShip miniatures.
Another unique feature of this TRO is that it contains only BattleSpace statistics for the fighters presented rather than full TRO-style entries. New artwork for a handful of fighters appears but the images are not assigned to specific fighters. These images presumably represented the fighters introduced in AeroTech that were not given artwork at the time.
The WarShip prominently shown on the cover, is a Leviathan-class Dreadnought, a ship class that was not actually described within the book. It was first described in Technical Readout: 3067. As of 3057, only two such ships were under construction, the Leviathan (Leviathan) and the Great Bear. A photo of a miniature of the latter in AeroTech 2 Revised Edition showcasing its canonical paint scheme depicts the Ghost Bear logo on a red field. Since such a red field is absent on the vessel depicted on the book's cover, it is presumably the Leviathan.
The third print run included a change to the fluff for the Tramp-class JumpShip (omitting the alleged sighting of Clan-owned vessels with 4 docking hardpoints). Note that this technically does not constitute a removal of the quote from Canon.

The German edition called Hardware-Handbuch 3057 was released by Fantasy Productions in 1992 and received just minor changes (see below). The German version is printed as DIN A4, a standard European paper size, which is a little larger then north american Letter.

Alterations

The German edition received notable changes only in the books last section BattleSpace Clarifications. Here, the original Technical Readout 3057 lists a string of rule clarifications, blank record sheets, tables, diagramms for BattleSpace and a sketch of different space vessels for purpose of size comparison. In German edition this section is renamed Grössenvergleich (Site Comparison) and consequently contains just the two pages of sketch, all other content is left out.

Spelling and Names

As with other German products prior to 1997 spelling and names (especially places and units) as well as most abbreviations were regularly adjusted. For instance the Mech unit Archer was renamed to Schütze, the Planet Gotterdammerung was respelled to Götterdämmerung, the DCMS (Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery) became VSDK (Vereinigte Streitkräfte des Draconis Kombinats) and so on.
