Plot Summary[edit]
The story is told from the perspective of Lieutenant Anthony Fraser, the ranking officer of the remaining Gray Death Legion forces on Helm during the invasion of the Twelfth Atrean Dragoons in March 3028. While Marik units advance on Durandel, the young and inexperienced officer Fraser recaps the events of the past few days while he tries to prepare his troops for the upcoming battle by reminding them that they are the only protection for the Legion's dependents. At the end of his moving speech, a soldier starts to sing the song “Home is the Regiment”, which indicates that he has reached his troops.
