The SLS Lakshmi was an Avatar-class[1] heavy cruiser commissioned into the Star League Defense Force black water navy in or around 2574. Commander Theodore Rasmusen took command of it "off the builder's slip" and captained it for seven years,[1] until the Star League offensive to capture the Taurian Concordat world of Flintoft during the Reunification War. There, the SLS Lakshmi was lost with nearly all of its crew when the Taurians used fireships against it[1] loaded with nuclear weapons and other explosives, crippling or destroying sixteen SLDF WarShips.
Commodore Rasmusen survived the destruction of the SLS Lakshmi and went on to command the Aegis-class SLS Minotaur.[1]
Four years later in sill during the Reunification War, his Aegis-class ship SLS Minotaur was patrolling along the FSS Klingenthal, a Congress-class Federated Suns naval vessel, attempting to block a trio of Taurian Pinto-class WarShips from being able to attack a troop convoy bound for Tentativa when the Klingenthal was suddenly disabled by an internal explosion and then destroyed shortly thereafter by the Taurian vessels.[1]
Commodore Theodore Rasmusen, CO of the Minotaur, notes that the Taurian ships had already begun to turn before the explosion crippled the Klingenthal and, after debriefing survivors, suspects sabotage. Due to combat damage he cannot report this to the friendly fleet sitting at the jump point and bound to jump out to Tentativa via a reasonably safe transmission; for a lack of other options he decides to use the Minotaur's Lithium-Fusion battery to reach the jump point from a nearby pirate point. En route the Minotaur experiences similar malfunctions as the Klingenthal had, and Rasmusen surmises they are being sabotaged, too. He pieces together information from the survivors and divines that the saboteurs were among a contingent of troops carried aboard the Klingenthal bound for the convoy's flagship at the jump point; because of a change of plans, the rendezvous was postponed, the personnel were not transferred to the flagship and so the Klingenthal was sabotaged instead. Rescued from the destroyed vessel, they are now active aboard the Minotaur.[1]
With the ship failing around them, Rasmusen and his crew finally corner the saboteurs and overpower them before the damage is irreversible. Rasmusen is confident that he will be able to rescue the convoy yet, by arriving at the jump point in time and informing them of the looming Taurian trap.[1]

- According to Historical: Reunification War, the battle for Flintoft began on the 15th of March 2581 and that the SLDF naval formation involved in the attack was the First Battle Fleet.[2]
