Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

Tybalt's lack of a native army proved a problem when forces from the Tikonov Union landed to occupy the world.[1] The occupation of Tybalt was one of a number of early military actions by the Tikonov Union against the weakening Terran Alliance and resulted in the Union also occupying the nearby worlds of Algol, Rio, Mirach, and Ruchbah.[3] The inhabitants of Tybalt subsequently voted to join the Union in 2225. After the Tikonov Grand Union voted to join the Capellan Confederation, Tybalt appealed to the Terran Hegemony. The Hegemony awarded Tybalt protectorate status, and the planet remained part of the Hegemony until the fall of the Star League. This was far from uncontested;[1] in 2435 Hegemony Armed Forces faced the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces in the Battle of Tybalt, in which the new fusion-powered main battle tank of the Terran Hegemony, the Merkava Mk. VII Heavy Tank, enjoyed great success against the Capellan forces, justifying the shift in Hegemony production from ICE-powered combat vehicles to fusion-powered armor.[8]

First Succession War[edit]

Having initially been annexed by the Federated Suns, Tybalt was conquered as part of a small-scale Capellan Confederation military operation launched in early 2787; in addition to capturing Tybalt, by August 2787 the CCAF had also captured two other former Hegemony worlds that had been annexed by the Federated Suns, Angol and Rio.[18]

Jihad[edit]

The Word of Blake conquered Tybalt in a brief campaign during the second week of August 3069 and incorporated it into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[52] Tybalt would remain a part of the Protectorate until early 3077, when it was targeted in the first wave of assaults made by the allied coalition forces that made up the Federated Suns front of Operation SCOUR. Tybalt was liberated by Group III, which left the citizens of Tybalt in the unusual position of throwing a victory parade that, for the first time in the history of Tybalt, honored a unit from the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery;[62] serving in Group III alongside the Fifth Lyran Guards and Delta Galaxy of Clan Nova Cat were the Seventeenth Benjamin Regulars.[63]

Dark Age[edit]

Two years prior to the Blackout, Republic business tycoon Jacob Bannson funded the creation of an elite militia force to augment the Tybalt Standing Guard.[64] Later in mid-3136 Tybalt became the site of Bannson's last known location before his disappearance.[65]

Tybalt was one of several worlds considered and rejected by the Spirit Cats as their prophesied new home.[66]

During the planning of Operation TIAMAT Tybalt was one of the objective worlds but was never attacked by Combine or Capellan forces.[67][68]

Military Deployment[edit]

Geography[edit]

Tybalt is a world that suffers from frequent earthquakes. Eleven continents are on the world, but ten of them are so covered in mountains that large human settlement is impossible. Only on the continent named Titiana has the environment reduced the mountain ranges to the point that human cities are possible. Tybalt's capital city, MacBeth, is on this continent. The rest of the world has a thin population of herders, prospectors, and trappers, but MacBeth remains the largest population center.[1]
