Talk pages

Morning, Aldous. Please keep discussions on talk/discussion pages. There are several reasons why, but the two major reasons are 1) because the recipient has no idea you've reached out to him unless he sees the history page (discussion pages give the reader a notice whenever he logs on when someone has written on his page, just you did when I wrote here), 2) The User Page is his personal space and the only one (generally) allowed to write on it is the User. Moratorium

Actually that's incorrect. When a product is PDF and hardcopy, the moratorium expires two months (60 days) after the hardcopy is released. Since FM3145 isn't out as a hardcopy yet, we can't use it as a source. (Frustrating I know.) So please hold off on using FM3145 as a source for now.--Mbear^(talk) 10:29, 13 November 2013 (PST)

Chesterton

Hi Aldous,
I'm afraid your recent edit to the Chesterton page covering the conquest of the world during the Dark Age was re-edited by Desaints because it appeared to stray out of the neutral point of view that all the editors here are supposed to adhere to, as per the Policy on the Neutral Point of View. If you were quoting an in-character statement, then it's better to do that as an actual quote within the article, although those are best used sparingly to avoid each article simply becoming a mass of in-character quotes. I think FM:3145 is still under moratorium, too - that's what the book article says, which I'm guessing is because we don't have a release date for the hard copy yet - so it's against the Sarna policy for any edits to be made using FM:3145 as a source at the moment. 82.0.120.73 06:04, 13 November 2013 (PST)

It is still under moratorium at this time. (Sorry for doubling up on the posts.) McCarron's Trading Company

Hi, I'm slightly confused by you edit of McCarron's Trading Company. You have removed the Stub marker but provided no new information. Is there evidence for the classification of the company as interstellar? The Primary Products filed in the infobox is driven by the list of manufactured items and components in terms of categorization on the wiki - it was set to BattleMechs by Doneve because that was the only listed finished product in the manufactured items section at the time. Rather than using "varied", to be consistent with the other manufacturers pages, can you list the major category types definitively please? Something like Defiance Industries is a good example of how a completed table for a manufacturer that makes more than one major product line should look. St. Ives Academy of Martial Sciences Training Group

Good morning Aldous,
I had a read through your article on the St. Ives Academy of Martial Sciences Training Group, and I think that as your first effort at creating a unit article from scratch it's definitely worthy of an award, and I'd like to present you with your first All Purpose Award ribbon: . I particularly like the format you used for references, and I'm going to datamine some of your references to update other articles.
I went through the article and made a few formatting edits, most of which I think resulted from you just not being familiar with some of the formatting quirks here. Mbear has a good style guide linked on his user page, which pays particular attention to things like formatting unit names; in general, we try and keep to the formatting used by the BattleCorps writers for consistency both on here and with canon sources, although there are a few exceptions. I've listed a few formatting conventions that it's worth you knowing for future unit articles - I hope they help, and I look forward to seeing more unit articles from you.

• Battle armor is two words, not one - so battle armor, not battlearmor.
• The correct formatting for BattleMech and OmniMech is as shown here - FASA established a convention of odd capitalisations for certain key equipments (another being WarShip rather than Warship, JumpShip vs Jumpship, etc).
• The formatting for operation names has changed recently; CGL (and by extension, us) are now following the NATO convention of capitalising op names, so the new format is Operation CELESTIAL REWARD rather than Operation Celestial Reward.
• The names of WarShips, JumpShips and DropShips are always in italics, but the service prefixes aren't - so the Perdition would be WoBS Perdition or WBS Perdition rather than WoBS Perdition. If possible, can you include the class of the ship as well the first time a ship is named in an article - Dante-class frigate WoBS Perdition, for example - as it gives casual readers more information on ships if they want to follow up.
• If you mention the name of a canon book somewhere like the notes page, can you spell out the full name of the book; not all of the readers will be familiar with the shorthand abbreviations.
• Bibliographies should be sorted alphabetically.

I'm guessing BobTheZombie will do a more comprehensive check than I did as he's a good editor that way, but I think that for your first unit article you made a very good effort - particularly as training units affiliated to academies are bit odd to begin with.
