Welcome aboard

Hey MahiMahi, I have replied to your question on the Price of Glory talk page but wanted to welcome you aboard properly and let you know how much I appreciate that you are doing research work and want to use the results to make our wiki better. I personally think the best wiki editors are the ones who can think outside the box and link information together from several different products rather than adhere slavishly to the text written in the books. As such I hope you stick around :-)--Dmon (talk) 05:10, 21 March 2019 (EDT)

Canon media/authors categories

Hiya, may I suggest - while the projects aren't too large yet - to adjust the names by replacing "canon" with "in-universe"? Canon is the wrong word for what you're describing, I believe. Frabby (talk) 04:54, 27 February 2020 (EST)

  • That was my first instinct on what to call it anyway. Done. I'll be going back through the books I've read in my chronological order quest (just finishing LoT2 now) and adding more in as I get the chance. MahiMahi (talk) 06:51, 27 February 2020 (EST)

Canon status of MW5 origin story

May I inquire why you have removed the apocryphal tags and Canon explanation from the MW5 origin story articles? Was there any new announcement marking them as canon after all? Frabby (talk) 04:58, 14 April 2021 (EDT)

Yes, they're now fully canonized with this release: https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/collections/battletech/products/battletech-the-mercenary-life
They slipped that out pretty quietly! Just checked and it went up on Amzon two days ago! Good catch MahiMahi!--Dmon (talk) 07:31, 14 April 2021 (EDT)
Oh wow, good catch indeed! But I think that needs to be mentioned in the articles that there was a first, apocryphal release and it was canonized through a CGL release on 12 April 2021. Frabby (talk) 10:07, 14 April 2021 (EDT)

ELH Cronicles

Hi MahiMahi, have you seen this post regarding the ELH Chronicles? As of right now, everything on fs.battletech.com/fiction is not set in stone.--Cache (talk) 18:37, 14 April 2021 (EDT)

Good spot. I'll hold off on adding the dates, but I've heard back from a lot of the authors that their books at least have been writtenMahiMahi (talk) 18:59, 14 April 2021 (EDT)

MahiMahi, Dmon: thanks for following behind me and beefing & cleaning up that article. Much improved; more informative.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:23, 23 May 2021 (EDT)

Job Title Capitalization

MahiMahi, with regards to the Dietrich Mathers article, job titles are normally only capitalized when they are used in front of a name or as direct address. Not when used alone. I.e. I think Professor Mathers made a fine assistant professor. Do you agree, Professor?

I only have Tactical Operations currently to check sources, but that is confirmed throughout the text. If you have the PDF, do a search for "professor."--Cache (talk) 11:34, 2 June 2021 (EDT)

You and I are on the same freq, Cache. I'm thinking about putting up an essay about proper capitalizations in BattleTech, since so many things are constantly capitalized whether they should be or not. DropPorts, apparently yes; Small Laser, definitely not. Even Star Captain should be lower case when not used as a title. "Star Captain Hewe was in command..." vice "Hewe was a star captain in the...". --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:44, 2 June 2021 (EDT)
Except in this case it was used as his job title. "Distinguished members of the media, my name is Professor Dietrich Mathers" (TM 31); "Hello, I’m Professor…Assistant Professor Dietrich Mathers" (TOAU 43); "I’m Assistant Professor Dietrich Mathers" (SO 110). MahiMahi (talk) 16:14, 2 June 2021 (EDT)
In each of those cases, the title is used in front of his name and should be capitalized. The corrections I made to the article, that you reversed, were correct. The job title standing by itself is not capitalized. "Professor Emeritus Dietrich Mathers was a professor from the..." is correct. "Professor Emeritus Dietrich Mathers was a Professor from the..." is not. Caps with Job Titles--Cache (talk) 21:53, 2 June 2021 (EDT)
I will only note that your edits also effected Professor & Assistant Professor when used as a job title. I have provided further corrections where needed. MahiMahi (talk) 07:13, 3 June 2021 (EDT)
Job title is only half of the equation. "Used immediately prior to a name" is the other half. Both conditions must be met to capitalize, not just the first. I'll attach an image in discord as a source.--Cache (talk) 10:51, 3 June 2021 (EDT)
Gentlemen, I was wrong when it came to Clan titles. Unless it has changed since Herb Beas was in charge, any use of rank is always capitalized, even when not used as the person's title.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:09, 3 June 2021 (EDT)

Miniature Base Numbers - Wave 1

Hello MahiMahi. Since you have some of the Wave 1 miniatures, one possible thing to check out would be Miniatures - Catalyst Game Labs#BattleTech Clan Invasion. There are some info gaps in the table of the base numbers of the Wave 1 miniatures. Specifically, some from Clan Command Star and the Legendary MechWarriors Pack figures would need some info yet. So if you have the relevant miniatures and can fill in any of these, that would help bring that to completion. --Dude RB (talk) 19:11, 21 June 2021 (EDT)

Didn't even know that was a thing. I can populate that tonight. Thanks!MahiMahi (talk) 19:17, 21 June 2021 (EDT)
Sounds good. That additional info will be helpful. Thanks. --Dude RB (talk) 21:44, 21 June 2021 (EDT)
Thanks for filling in that information. That information appears to confirm a conjecture of mine, namely that the base numbers correspond to alphabetical order within each pack. --Dude RB (talk) 19:51, 22 June 2021 (EDT)

Wave 1 Force Pack card titles

Hello MahiMahi. Here is another short set of potential tasks related to Wave 1. The titles of the Alpha Strike cards and pilot cards in BattleTech: Clan Command Star#Contents‎‎ and BattleTech: Legendary MechWarriors Pack#Contents could be checked and either confirmed or corrected. I did this for the Inner Sphere Lances and for the BattleTech: Clan Heavy Striker Star. I learned that the Alpha Strike cards for Clan mechs list both the Clan and Inner Sphere designations. I made an extrapolation of this to the Command Star, but a direct check from the actual cards would be appropriate. --Dude RB (talk) 22:54, 24 June 2021 (EDT)

Notable Pilots

Hi, saw your edits to the UrbanMech article and wanted to point out that Notable Pilot listings like the one you created are deprecated in favor of categories. See Category:Notable MechWarriors and pilots. Frabby (talk) 14:56, 11 December 2021 (EST)

Jim Holloway (Character)

I've given the page the template for characters, but it is still pending some reference. As the author of the article, can you please add that information to the page?--Pserratv (talk) 04:36, 13 January 2022 (EST)

Magazine content that isn't short stories

Hey, I've started a discussion at Talk:Shrapnel (magazine) about wether or not we should create full articles about non-story content like "Mother of Resistance" Dead on Vipaava. Since you created that one, I thought it prudent to ping you about my thoughts here. :) Mind you I'm not against putting up the information per se; but I think it is not deserving of its own article and it certainly isn't a short story, and should thus simply be included in the Shrapnel article. Frabby (talk) 06:25, 18 June 2022 (EDT)

"Notable Pilot" for a drone?

Category:Notable Celerity Pilots raised an eyebrow with me. It's a drone, so it technically doesn't have a pilot. The sole guy in this category remote-controlled the drone(s). I am unsure if the Notable Pilot concept is even applicable here, and wether we need or should have this category for drone 'Mechs? It somehow feels counter-intuitive. Frabby (talk) 10:51, 24 June 2022 (EDT)

  • He's listed in the same TRO Notable categories as all the others, and there is a second Notable pilot in that category who is pending.--MahiMahi (talk) 11:00, 24 June 2022 (EDT)
  • In the US, personnel assigned to full-sized drones flown from extreme distance via dedicated workstations are considered pilots. Those that operate drones from the field (short-range) over handheld sets are referred to as drone operators. I believe the Celerity is controlled from the former description.
That aside, MahiMahi's statement indicates CGL treats the personnel like they do for notable MechWarriors and combat vehicle crewman, necessitating a similar relevant treatment by Sarna.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 07:03, 26 June 2022 (EDT)
