Bloodname Project

Greetings again Pserratv, I am again back from the abyss and am continuing on the Clan Bloodnames as I see you are too. Do you wish to make it a project? (is make a project page for it?) as I'm sure over the last few years I and yourself haven't been the only ones getting the better idea about it. I posted this on my user page but what do you think of:

  • Bloodname Project
  • Particularly those absorbed/annihilated/abjured Clans indicate just how dead (or not) their Bloodnames are.
  • Finish any remaining tables, fix any linking issues and find refs for the narratives.
  • Taking out the tables in the Clan pages and linking them to the main List_of_Bloodnames for better control and editing function
  • Possibly create a project page, due to the scope of the entire project covering many different categories and pages
  • Link the Bloodnames to their individual pages (if created) and/or create the page using the template (that needs to be finalized)
  • Take out the little bit of narratives on the individual bloodnames in the sections parts and put them in those individual pages.
  • Category the Bloodnames to the Clans that hold them, no matter how they hold them.
  • Scour the Wiki for all the Clan Warriors of each Bloodname and add them to their individual pages (maybe....)
  • Use the Special:Concepts to assist users to understand what they are looking at
  • The idea sounds reasonable, though I've never created a Project myself, if you know how to do it, we can go for it.--Pserratv (talk) 04:10, 8 January 2021 (EST)

Aphros Security Corps

Hey PS,

Had an anonymous IP flag up an issue with the Aphros Security Corps article, the reference has the unit listed as being on page 95, but the The Fall of Terra book only has 72 pages. I have had a quick scan through the book but can't find the unit. Any chance you remember where the unit was mentioned.--Dmon (talk) 07:04, 29 January 2021 (EST)

Until now unable to find anything... and there is no scenario Defender... so from where did I take that information!? Still checking.--Pserratv (talk) 08:24, 29 January 2021 (EST)

Places on planets

Hi Pserratv, I saw your Bagera article. The entire Category:Places makes me uncomfortable. We don't normally create individual articles for places; instead, we cover notable places in the planet entry. Heck, we don't even have planet articles because planets are covered in their respective star system articles.

I am not sure if "place" articles are desirable. Not only because of the notability (or not) of most of those names, but also because because they are relevant only in the context of describing a planet (like, the names of a planet's continents or major cities). We have "places" sections in the planet sections in the sytem articles. Also, many names pop up over and over again on different worlds. It'd be a disambiguation nightmare. Do we really want to go down this route? Frabby (talk) 06:44, 12 February 2021 (EST)

Not sure, I create the article as it is on the wanted section. For me the section makes sense. The problem is the line. The Fox's Den for example it is a place that could well have its own article, but in most cases a place should be just in the planet section. Bagera most probably really does not deserve to be there.--Pserratv (talk) 06:55, 12 February 2021 (EST)
My thoughts on the places category is that it is something I would rather have than not, but it is so low on the priority list that it almost doesn't exist. The Places section on most planet/system articles has no room for more than a line of descriptive text per location. That is fine because most places in the BT universe are just a name. Places is not something I intend to actively persue in the next few years but if somebody wants to make place articles more detailed than the single line of text allowed in the system articles I do not think we should discourage them.--Dmon (talk) 08:40, 12 February 2021 (EST)
After thinking a bit more, Bagera does not deserve an article. What I've done is create the Bagera Training Facility, the sibko facility that Clan Some Jaguar has there, created under military academies, which makes a bit more sense. We have several names for clan facilities that are used to train sibkos, we could create its own sub-category, or kept them as military academies.--Pserratv (talk) 05:53, 16 February 2021 (EST)

"Image" vs. "Logo"

Hi Pere, you're categorizing company logos as "images" but I think that is the wrong word. I'm not a native speaker either but I think what you mean is "Company Logo"; an "image" would be a photo of the office building or something like that. Frabby (talk) 05:45, 8 March 2021 (EST)

Got your point. I'm also not a native speaker. Let me check and take action if needed.--Pserratv (talk) 05:49, 8 March 2021 (EST)
Hey guys, As a sort of native speaker (UK vs American english) Frabby has the right idea with Company or Corporate logo being the correct term.--Dmon (talk) 06:10, 8 March 2021 (EST)
Checked already and category renamed and all logos correctly directed :). Thanks!--Pserratv (talk) 06:10, 8 March 2021 (EST)

Hi, Can you add image summary templates to the company logos you uploaded? I don't know what to list as the source for them. Thank you!--Cache (talk) 09:12, 10 March 2021 (EST)

OK, I'll do it today.--Pserratv (talk) 09:28, 10 March 2021 (EST)

Image Categories

Hi Mbear,

Do you know how the system maps are generated? All those images don't have a category and this makes the Uncategorized files not very useful as from the first 1000 thousand maybe 95% images as these ones. And I do not want to put them in a category as this might affect the "program" that generates them. Do you know who can help? Maybe when the image is generated it can be put in a category like "System Images". I'm asking more people, but do you have any idea?--Pserratv (talk) 04:24, 8 March 2021 (EST)

Sorry but I don't have any idea how those are generated. Maybe someone from the Project Planets team would have the info you need. --Mbear(talk) 10:19, 10 March 2021 (EST)
I believe the person making is the owner himself, Nicjansma. He the one who been doing heavy lifting on the maps and such. I suggest you contacting him directly. -- Wrangler (talk) 20:00, 10 March 2021 (EST)
I've contacted Nic. Let's see now.--Pserratv (talk) 04:47, 11 March 2021 (EST)

Deletion requests

Hi Pere,

instead of launching a new Talk page for articles that are going to be deleted, it will usually be enough to put a {{deletion}} tag at the top of the article proper. No point in creating a Talk page for the purpose of deleting it again. ;) Frabby (talk) 02:10, 24 March 2021 (EDT)

Didn't know that one. I'll do from now onwards.--Pserratv (talk) 05:05, 24 March 2021 (EDT)

Award

Hey Ps,

I want to ward you with a new ribbon Random Act of Appreciation Award, 3rd ribbon to show my appreciation for the MechWarrior Personnel File articles, these have long been an item that interests me but I have found very little information about them. So thank you for helping teach new things about BattleTech to a guy who has been doing BattleTech for 30 years! Wink.gif--Dmon (talk) 09:51, 30 March 2021 (EDT)

Thanks!--Pserratv (talk) 09:56, 30 March 2021 (EDT)

Link

Hey PS,

The BT forums appear to be down, so just checking if you got the link I sent you?--Dmon (talk) 07:23, 13 April 2021 (EDT)

HI Dmon, no, I did get no link.--Pserratv (talk) 07:27, 13 April 2021 (EDT)
If it is not back up working later today I wil find a different way to send it to you.--Dmon (talk) 08:11, 13 April 2021 (EDT)

BT Forum is live again so have a quick check for that link please!--Dmon (talk) 09:52, 13 April 2021 (EDT)

Got it.--Pserratv (talk) 11:28, 13 April 2021 (EDT)

In a sort of follow-up to this, do you have all the old BattleCorps news articles in a PDF or something like that?--Dmon (talk) 07:01, 20 April 2021 (EDT)

Yes, that I have with me.--Pserratv (talk) 07:05, 20 April 2021 (EDT)
Any chance that I could have a copy?--Dmon (talk) 07:09, 20 April 2021 (EDT)
I'll contact you in forum.--Pserratv (talk) 07:15, 20 April 2021 (EDT)
Gracias mi amigo--Dmon (talk) 07:16, 20 April 2021 (EDT)
I was just about to try and recover all the Battlecorp news items (or at least the publicly available ones) from the WayBack Machine, in order to try to expand some of the info here on the old WWEs (since at appears a series of Battlecorps news items was done for a couple of those Canon Events, at least per the WWE ads I found while updating that article a little while ago). Is there any way I could also be saved from that work? HF22 (talk) 08:36, 20 April 2021 (EDT)
I just need an e-mail address and some time. If you are in BTForum, you'll find me there with same ID or very similar (I think only pserrat).--Pserratv (talk) 11:17, 20 April 2021 (EDT)
Thanks - Owe you one! I've sent a private message on the BTForum. HF22 (talk) 07:28, 21 April 2021 (EDT)
In relation to this, I have now completed articles listing the news items by channel, which should help with referencing these sources. I also noticed a lot of the 3067 etc items in that trove you shared were deconstructed news items from Dawn of the Jihad, rather than BattleCorps pieces, which is something to be careful of.
Finally, I checked the completeness of these lists against the old BattleCorps site via the Wayback machine, and there were about an extra 250 or so missing in-universe articles from the trove (mostly Milspec items). I have recovered about 200 of these from other sources, so if you would like copies of those just let me know. HF22 (talk) 08:54, 1 May 2021 (EDT)
It might be an idea if we sort through the files and combine them in a similar way to how the Dark Age news files where combined.--Dmon (talk) 09:00, 1 May 2021 (EDT)
You mean like combine them into one pdf per channel? I could put that together for everyone, with maybe heading only pages for the articles we are missing.HF22 (talk) 09:44, 1 May 2021 (EDT)
I started to copy articles from the site when it became apparent BattleCorps was in decline. I'd have to look, but I seem to recall my handmade copy of the MilSpecs was complete (and one or two other channels). Drop me an email. Frabby (talk) 11:50, 1 May 2021 (EDT)
Will do. What is the best way to get you - The email user widget here, or a PM on the official BT forums? HF22 (talk) 12:04, 1 May 2021 (EDT)
if done, please share.--Pserratv (talk) 15:33, 1 May 2021 (EDT)
Done now, and only missing like 4 articles out of 549 total, which is pretty reasonable. I've emailed these over to you - If you don't get it let me know. If anyone else want these, just let me know! HF22 (talk) 05:08, 2 May 2021 (EDT)
I do not find that e-mail. Can you resend?--Pserratv (talk) 04:55, 3 May 2021 (EDT)
I've sent you a link over on the official forums, which should work. Please confirm once you have got it. HF22 (talk) 06:26, 3 May 2021 (EDT)
Got it, thanks!--Pserratv (talk) 07:05, 3 May 2021 (EDT)

Thirteen

Noticed you removed the categorization as Individual 'Mech. Why? It is one particular, named, individual 'Mech but since it only features in that one story it doesn't make sense to create two distinct articles for the story and the 'Mech. (See also: Cargo Queen, which is both a scenario title and the name of the eponymous JumpShip). Frabby (talk) 08:22, 15 April 2021 (EDT)

The category was linked to the short history Thirteen, not to an article on the battlemech. I would expect an specific article like this: Drizella (FrankenMech); called Thirteen (Zeus BattleMech) or something like this. At least, that is my feeling.--Pserratv (talk) 08:25, 15 April 2021 (EDT)
Also the 'Mech features in the story Laws are Silent not just the self-titled story.--Dmon (talk) 08:38, 15 April 2021 (EDT)
Lazy me didn't do a separate writeup for the 'Mech when I produced the story article. At the time I thought there wouldn't be additional info that warranted a separate article for the 'Mech, and individual 'Mech articles weren’t a thing yet. We need to produce an article on the 'Mech then. Frabby (talk) 14:10, 17 April 2021 (EDT)

Ice Ferret P

As you said of the Hellbringer P, is the Ice Ferret P also relevant? Cause I would like to add to the Ice Ferret in the same area as Hellbringer. Apocryphal. XThunderHawk819 (talk) 20:19, 5 May 2021 (EDT)

Hi, if it is still in the forums of MechWarrior Online (even if it cannot be bought any longer, yes it is relevant.--Pserratv (talk) 03:17, 6 May 2021 (EDT)

New Oslo Militia

Morning, Pserratv. Would you please take a look at the history section of New Oslo Militia? On Discord, krev noticed that it doesn't mention the Militia. I think it was because you meant to replace "GKT Volunteer Regiment" with "New Oslo Militia". I didn't want to change it, as you'd know better the intent. Thanks. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 07:51, 31 May 2021 (EDT)

Here there has been always a bit of confusion on what to do with Militias. In some case we give a general name and list the sub-elements. In other cases we have the subelements only. In this case the New Oslo Militia is the 1st New Oslo Armored Division. We might rename it to specific name, but usually we did this way. But we can take a different stand.--Pserratv (talk) 07:55, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
What do the sources call it? Division or Militia?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 08:06, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
Division, I checked.--Pserratv (talk) 08:08, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
Do you have an issue if I re-name as 1st New Oslo Armored Division then? Otherwise, we may need to change the history section to reference only the Militia, since there is no clear relationship (parent/subelement) made in the article.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 08:11, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
I have no problem at all with this change :). Only that you do it :).--Pserratv (talk) 08:11, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
...and done. Thanks for working with me. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 08:17, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
Always a pleasure :)--Pserratv (talk) 08:18, 31 May 2021 (EDT)
Agree!--Revanche (talk|contribs) 08:19, 31 May 2021 (EDT)

New Avalon

Stole your idea of using Cache's version (of the New Avalon map ) on all things New Avalon-ish. Thanks for the suggestion.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:56, 31 May 2021 (EDT)

No worries, I feels great :)--Pserratv (talk) 10:57, 31 May 2021 (EDT)

Sigil descriptions

Hey PS,

I am considering removing the sigil descriptions from the Aurigan noble houses. First reason is in the current format I am concerned that the articles are too close to the original text from House Arano (The Aurigan Coalition) so some alterations are needed anyway. Second reason is that I do not think the description actually brings anything to the article since we have images of the sigil.--Dmon (talk) 13:02, 3 June 2021 (EDT)

Dmon, I support keeping the descriptions. (I thought House Arano featured a sea horse rather than a cormorant.) Maybe make them direct quotes from the source rather than rewording. I believe small scale quoting like that is allowable. --Cache (talk) 13:11, 3 June 2021 (EDT)
whatever you see fit. I'n not very good with animals, though it was relevant.--Pserratv (talk) 17:09, 3 June 2021 (EDT)

Tara Lucas (31st c.)

Morning, Pserratv. I know you didn't create the article, but do you know why it is titled "(31st c.)"? I don't see any name conflict in articles.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 07:39, 7 June 2021 (EDT)

No idea either... I was touching another thing and saw this, but somebody created the original Tara Lucas, and then redirected to 31st c. page... Strange.--Pserratv (talk) 07:49, 7 June 2021 (EDT)
Thanks. I think I'll Be Bold.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 08:00, 7 June 2021 (EDT)
First line of the history section reads "Lucas was at least a third-generation Dragoon, the namesake and granddaughter of Captain Tara Lucas who had served with distinction in Zeta Battalion up through the Fourth Succession War", who I believe is listed in the original WD book.--Dmon (talk) 09:46, 7 June 2021 (EDT)
No idea how I missed that. Moderating too fast, I suppose. I see the present redlink is aimed at "30th c." so we're good for disambiguation, if it ever gets created. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 06:44, 11 June 2021 (EDT)
