The Ward system was home to at least one habitable world, Ward VI, and as at 3145 was located in the Victoria Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[3][4]

System Description

The Ward system is located near the Hurik and Weldry systems[5] and consists of a class F6V primary orbited by at least six planets.[1][2]

System History

The Ward system was settled during the First Exodus from Terra,[1][2] but was too insignificant to be recorded on maps until some point during the Star League era after the end of the Reunification War.[6][5]

Ward VI

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Ward VI - more commonly referred to simply as Ward - is the sixth planet in the system and has a single moon named Courage. Ward has been home to at least one facility operated by Irian Technologies and a large navel station was put in orbit above the north pole of courage in the 3050s.[2]

Planetary History

Ward was originally settled during the First Exodus by Utopians. This experimental community based itself on the ideas of harmony and cooperative activity. Though an excellent idea, the First Ward Constitution was replaced in 2644 for a document that allowed for free trade and more military activity. Despite this, the original Utopian ideals remained strong in the minds of the population and the First Ward Constitution remained one of the most widely studied political documents from the First Exodus.[1][7]

Ward's greatest export during the thirty-first century was skilled construction workers. Frequently contracted to build roads through harsh terrain on other worlds, the Wardians used a proprietary formula to create a road surface that was weather-, stress-, and temperature-proof to a degree that isn't seen in any other similar material.[1] As a result Wardian built roads tended to last much longer than their non-Wardian counterparts. The Wardians would retain this competitive edge up until information recovered from the Helm Memory Core revealed an alternative materiel of equivalent efficiency to that designed on Ward.[7]

After the creation of the Trinity Alliance, Ward thrived and became a busy, active crossroads world for both trade and travel between the Confederation and its Periphery allies, the Taurian Concordat and the Magistracy of Canopus.[8] Even before this increase in prosperity, Ward had long been a waypoint for prospectors and explorers and merited a large naval station in orbit above the north pole of Ward's single moon, Courage. The naval station generated a substantial portion of the trade profit produced by Ward, but the bulk of the population were largely unconcerned by its presence, and the station itself was managed by a crew of non-Wardians brought in by the planetary ruler.[7]

When the naval station was constructed in the 3050s the Maskirovka took the opportunity to expand their watch station located beneath the ice at Ward's north pole; the Maskirovka watch post was originally created to monitor traffic moving between the Periphery and the Confederation, but the expansion saw it become a full-sized installation charged with responsibility for all rimward Periphery activities. The facility would expand again with the inception of the Trinity Alliance to allow major wings to be added for the use of bureaus dedicated to the two Periphery nations involved.[7]

In 3067 rumors reached the local Maskirovka director that weapons were being smuggled through Ward, using the innocence of the local Utopian population as a cover; while smugglers had always been a presence within the system, reports of unsanctioned weapon sales to worlds within the Fronc Reaches were new, although the director hadn't taken action by the end of 3067.[7]
