Unit Description
XXXIV Corps (or the Thirty-Fourth Corps) was one of the seventy-two Corps that made up the Star League Defense Force. Prior to the collapse of the Star League it consisted of 4 divisions, 7 independent regiments and an independent aerospace wing.[1]
History
In 2764 XXXIV Corps was part of the 9th Army, assigned to District 2 of the Free Worlds League Military Region. When the simmering violence and rebellion building in the Periphery erupted with the New Vandenberg Uprising and subsequent Periphery-wide uprising in 2765 XXXIV Corps was deployed into the Periphery Military Region along with the rest of the 9th Army.[1]
The resulting combat and terrorist actions within the Periphery Military Region inflicted heavy damage on XXXIV Corps; two complete Mechanised Infantry Divisions, the 44th and the 62nd, were destroyed, along with XXXIV Corps' Independent Aero Wing and three of the seven independent regiments... more than half of the effective combat strength of the Corps.[1]
The remaining units of XXXIV Corps went on to fight in the Hegemony Campaign, but by the end of the campaign the Corps was effectively destroyed as a fighting formation; only one independent regiment, the 9999th Mechanized Infantry Regiment, survived as a combat unit in 2784 from what had been a deployable fighting strength of more than forty regiments just twenty years before.[1]
When General Aleksandr Kerensky led the bulk of the SLDF on the Exodus the 9999th, last remnant of XXXIV Corps, followed him.[1]
