posted this over at the CBT forum, figured I'd give it a listing here as well...
RFL-3R(M) Riffleman

Overview: 30 The RFL-3R(M) started life as a conventional RFL-3R Riffleman, and served as one for a number of successfull campaigns. Until battle damage left the machine without ether AC in functioning condition and both Magna Mk II Medium Lasers damaged beyond economic repair. Fortunately, it was on the winning side in it's pilot claimed the salvage from a pair of unrepairable GRF-1N Griffins (one had it's engine cored, the other lost both legs before finaly ejecting). His company mates let him, knowing his tech had a flair for coming up with workable ideas. A few days later, the Riffleman was back, mounting the Griffin's LRM racks and ammo in place of it's old ACs, with heat sinks in place of the ruined medium lasers, and additional heat sinks in the old AC ammo compartment and installed in the arms. The LRMs were modified to use the existing fire control of the ACs, so there was no degredation of capabilities so comon with field refits of this type. The armor was reinforced with additional plating.
The new -3R(M) took part in a handfull of firefights after it's rebirth, proving it's self to be a very credible threat to those used to the old -3R's limitations. The new mech would take hits that would have crippled the original, and kept fighting. The volume of fire it could sustain was greater then what the original could handle before shutting down as well.
To date, there has been no official interest in putting a similar design into production, though it's always possible that someone is working behind the scenes.

Now to do the same to a lvl 2 riffleman...

Hm...looks like the long-range half of a Stalker lol...you should design another field refit of something that mounts the Stalker's short-range weapon set

That, is an odd Riffleman you got there. I might make a Riffleman lance.

yes, it is odd. I mean, it's a riffleman that
- Actualy has something called armor - Can force a PSR without overheating. - Almost has enough HS for constant use of it's Lasers
I think I'll have to do the other half sometime...

A suggestion of mine is to put the heat sinks in the legs for increased efficency, or are there heat sinks in there already?

I don't know where the original RFL-3R's HSs were. I just added the new ones to crit slots vacated by the removal of the ACs, Ammo, and MLs.. (if I got my locations and numbers correct).

Kind of a groovy design you've got there! Certainly very different from the standard Rifleman, but based upon the fluf, I can certainly see how this developed. Great job, it was a real joy to read and look over.

I try to always right good fluff (which in my opinion includes a reason why the mech isn't "well known").
But thanks for the compliment.

Heh...with my designs the "why" is usually a given

That's because it would appear that step one in the design process for your engineers appears to be involve ether magic mushrooms, sleep depavation, or briberby by competing firms.... or all 3. I must admit, though, it gives your designs character..
(and I seem to remember one entry into a design contest of yours that made even you shake your head wondering what I was thinking...:) )
