The character of Ka Ragin in "Whence the King" is a sniveling but argumentative hand-servant of the ComStar Precentor Martial, Victor Steiner-Davion. As is common in the newer products put out by FanPro, references to outspoken or supportive fans are often made and this character is an homage (of sorts) to fan "Karagin" from the Classic BattleTech forums.

Wow, I never heard about that.

In fact, I've never heard of that BT novel. It's not even on Battlecorps. It only seems to exist on the Wiki entries.

In fact again, the Wiki list of BT novels doesn't include Whence the King:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_BattleTech_novels

And AFAIK, Karagin wasn't arguing strenuously with the writers when the last CBT novels were produced. I mean, sure, he had some epic flame wars with other BT players, but they weren't writers.

Pending some hard proof of its existence, the Ka Ragin entry has been deleted from the Wiki entry.

Searched on Altavista, found nothing.

Any chance it's an intro short story in a sourcebook?

It's looking unlikely at this point. Fans on other boards are stumped, too - this "Whence the King" story can't be found.

When GenCon settles down, maybe some of the writers can comment. One writer has already said (by PM) that they don't negatively canonize people. This would be the first example of it.

So, does Karagin have an enemy, or is it a secret (but really weird) admirer?

Or just someone with too much spare time?
