Overview: Working on a prexsisting design, that of the combines much used Panther mech; the Flasher Strike field mech series was orginally designed in 3023, and sat on a RnD board for many years. Slowly the design itself changed as technology was improved steadily. [HARD RETURN]The build itself was long standardized, using a light ferro alloying to give the 35 ton mech durability in a fire fight; a basic sensor package BAP/ECM mounted internally. Reicently the design itself was re opened as Light class fusion engine technology came into use; as a result of this improvment the weaponry itself was cycled through three variants; finally setlling on a single PPC and a trio of Medium class lasers. Meant to be a mobile agressor within its class, the mech is able to use its weapons for a extended timeframe. Orginally seen as a strange design; a sleeker faster version of the Panther, several names and designs were chosen but the lean, agile panther build was the final selection. Orginally intended to be a small production run, as a suppliment mech, this changed during 3061, finacial drains and technological problems along with war itself causing the Coordinator to seek well armed, agile and cheap mechs to replace heavy losses; this design was the version. Due to the slowly growing popularity of the design, as pilots grasped its sensor capacity and its high speed factor, several variants were also produced on a order by order basis. [HARD RETURN]Due to the influx of clan equipment and techs, the design itself was given a small but measureable boost when a star of Nova Cats, requested to trest the units out against like tonnage Lyran units captured. Requesting live fire was considered odd and dangerous, but it was agreed too, when the star performed admirabily, losing only a single unit, mainly due to weapons heat then any real damage, the mechs fate was assured. Steady but small production of this mech continues through four contractors as much of its parts are standardized and can be gotten for a low cost; the sensor equipent itself and the armor are two of the mechs key selling points, followed by its high speed curve and general endurance. Though it is a light mech several points are in its favor, the weaponry is pure energy systems for the primary configuration, lending it battlefield endurance and reach, the advanced sensors, on such a light mech also allow it to strike far, hard and accurately; a vital point in combat. The armor configuration, enhanced to Ferro Fib, light; gives this mech a ability to soak damage higher then most of its tonnage, granting the mech a name as a ferice infighter and attack mech. Using a new construction technique, the plates are slimmer looking, given a faint artistic humanoid form. The small cockpit, located in the feline style head; is angled, a couch like affair that, though small and spartan actually is designed to be comfortable; basic sleeping functions and refreshing capacity installed. Internally a host of double heat sinks serve to absorb all most all of the heat generated by the mech, only heavily extended combat making the heat index climb. Against the build however are several small but notable factors. The mech though fast, could benift from a jump jet addition, that may be included in later variants though it may prove a loss in firepower. The cockpit itself is small, though servicible, many pilots have complained that for days long missions the facilites and room inside there is cramp causing. The weaponry itself while functional and well made for both the mechs design and its tonnage is primarily off the shelf components slightly behind the advancing technolgical curve. Internally the engine while functional and more then powerful enough, it is nonetheless somewhat new technology and heavy damage to the engine has resulted in three known critical failures. The armor is also somewhat thin on the legs and torso section, done to provide room for weaponry, a problem that is lowered by the use of ferro, but this is still a noteable problem that may or may not prove dangerous. A few reports have came in that shots to the legs, that should be soaked penetrating when its least expected, though these occurances are little more then a handful.
Capabilities: Max damage at range 1 to 9 hexes is 25 using the following weapons: (IS) PPC (IS) Medium Laser (x3) Max damage at range 10 to 18 hexes is 10 using the following weapons: (IS) PPC Tons:34.91. FT:0.09. MH:21. HD:21. CF:28. BV.950. C$:4,953,825 MP:W-6. R-9. S-12. J:0
Deployment: 160 assembled units. 60 units have seen semi regular active combat since 3059 along the FedCom/Lyran/Combine boarder.
Battle History: 40 units sold to various merc units in the Combine/Nova cat regions. 100 units devoted to DCMS and Ghost Regiment units. Planned construction of another 30 units for dispersal to outside combine merc units that are Kurita friendly.20 units used for live fire/training exersizes within Pesht district and on the worlds of Chatham, Kagoshima and Avon primarily; intended to be a fast strike mech, used for rapid deployment and target harrassment until heavier units can be activated.
Known Variants: Sfm2 that replaces the medium lasers with pulse. Sfm3 that replaces the PPC with a large laser and more armor. Sfm4 that drops the engine rating by one mark, dropping the PPC and adding LRM/SRM racks in place. Proto type version that carries standard armor and a normal fusion engine, no fixed weapons other then a pair of small lasers one in each arm used for calibration and configuration tests.

Not too bad at all... I'd have to be real nitpicky (and I'm not 100% sure, have to check FM:Mercs Sup II) - Wether the Draconis Combine had access to the Light Engines by 3061 - But even if they didn't, it uses a baseline Clan Chassis - a Clan XL engine will do the job for only marginally more cost...

Why do I get the impression that this mech has camo painting that looks like a guy flashing little old ladies...

ahahaha... flasher ;D lol i almost called it flashman >.> <.<. as to the engine, yeah im not sure myself, since a lot of its just stats and specs to me, but its around that era or close, i orginally tried the build with standard armor and a normal engine but it ended up being a panther more or less; wanted something faster and a bit more cutting edge but not in a over done way, clan frame, light engine and ferro fib Lt. worked. have this obbession with heat curve though, it was going to have a trio of M-Pulse, but that climbed too high. Meant to be a good striker, move in, fire and move out; only reason its not got jump jets is to fit the design i wanted for that; would have had to been 40 tons and wanted to keep it 35 or so. woo fractional accounting for actually utalizing all the extra space in a mech.

As I said, I was totally nitpicking about it - solid design as it is, good for its role...
If you want, I can get FM:Mercs II and find out about the Engine... But as it is, I'd just keep it be.. You've got enough fluff justification for what you're doing anyway... (And its good to see tons of fluff on everyone's designs! Previous to coming back here, I got none everywhere else...)

heh. fluffy is good yes. Just sometimes hard to push the idea in brain out. Course I've a sieve's retention when it comes to a good number of Btech things outside of the tech, but books an >.> Pdf's are fixing that, fluffyness will abound.

Heh...fluff was the most entertaining part about designing a lot of my 'Mechs...check out my older posts ('02/'03) for some highly entertaining schtick about the...ahem...unfortunate early years of JMInc. I've been too lazy lately to come up with anything that good other than a few amusing "issues" with a prototype, but don't give up hope!
Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.
