Yup, I've either gone off my rocker, again, or just having fun. I'll have you guys decide which. Code:
BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Great Bull GRB-11L Tech: Inner Sphere / 3067 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 1, Standard design

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Great Bull was designed towards the end of the 3060's in the Concordant to be their flagship design, and also to be a show of what the Taurians could do without any help from their so called allies in the Magistracy or the Confederation.
Coming as something of a shock to the Inner Sphere when Taurian forces invaded the Federated Suns in 3073, largely due to the fact that no outsiders had suspected the existence of the design, which had been designed entirely within the Concordant, without any outside assistance.
However once the Davion mechwarriors overcame their surprise, it turned out that the design, while formidable, lacks modern technology, and therefore suffers badly against virtually all modern designs of a similar tonnage.
==Capabilities:== Slow, underarmed (compared with modern mech's, ed), but tough as old boots, the Great Bull fits the Taurian design philosophy to a T.
More reliable than spectacular, it can, however, cause a unwary opponent a considerable amount of hurt, especially at medium range or closer, and with a full nineteen tons of armor, and no vunerable extra light engine behind it, there is no doubt about it, this mech can take damage at least as well as it can dish it out.
The primary capability to dish it out comes from two torso mounted Pontiac 50's, known Sphere wide as some of the most reliable autocannon around, while four lasers, one large and three mediums, with one of the latter facing to the rear, give some ammunition free back up, although seeing as each autocannon has two tons of ammunition to go through, a fight would have to be long lasting indeed for this to happen. As a final line of defense, both hand actuators were kept, and certainly no foe would consider a punch from a hundred ton assault mech something to take lightly.
Seeing as all of the equipment used in the design was produced, either by having it's original producer inside the Concordant, or through license production, the Taurians were most successful in keeping outsiders from having any idea of the design's existence till it was revealed to the rest of the Houses in combat.
==Deployment== Two companies worth of this design spearheaded the Taurian invasion of the Federated Suns during the Liao Civil War. While the design came, at least initially, as a rude surprise to the Davion mechwarriors, they soon learned the do's and don'ts of fighting the design.
Still in full production, and frontline service, it is extremely unlikely that the Great Bull will be sidelined due to being considered such a prestige ride.
Although peace has been restored on the Fed Suns/Concordant border, tensions remain high, and even higher on the Canopian border, since the fall of the Trinity alliance has seen the two Periphery nations at loggerheads.
The world of Detroit is a particular sore spot for the Concordant, but seeing as it is now defended by a battalion of the Eridani Light Horse, and a trinary from Clan Nova Cat's Tau galaxy, as Star Leage peacekeepers (jointly asked to police the world by the Magistracy and chancellor Allard Liao), there is little that they can do about it, unless they wish the full weight of the Star League turned against them.

I find it to be more of their redesign of the Devastator then anything else- in level 1 play it would be quite dangerous, but as you said in level 2 it is quite underpowered. For a level 2 design, I think you should go with Ferro armor (the Taurians have some great infanstructure for the stuff, thanks to the Word) at least 12 DHS, and an effective mix of an LB-10X, ER PPC, Gauss Rifle, and a bevy of medium lasers.

Actually they had those even sooner, as shown by the Maultier (in production with FF armor since at least 3058). I'll take a look into it.

Reasonably solid design, but I find one major flaw in it. The lack of a true long range weapon. Especially for the era that it was designed for, mechs are generally faster with longer range weapons.
If you want to keep it a strict level 1 design, Drop the Large laser and a few heat sinks for an LRM-10 or LRM-15 or even a PPC. Really the Long range weapon won't be fired with the short range stuff so heat shouldn't be an issue.
If your willing to go up to level 2, double heat sinks, CASE and LB-10X would be obvious choices and would do nothing but enhance the performance of the design. Up the Large laser to an ER-PPC and add a few more med lasers at the expense of a few heat sinks and this would become a very deadly mech for what ever era it finds its-self in.
What ever you deside... CASE... only 10 pts rear... not conductive for an infighter with unprotected ammo
Hope this helps.

True, but you have to admit, at 10-15 hexes out, this mech can be very deadly. (it's also extremely heat efficient, not something you see every day in lvl 1)

Actually I would go with out to 10 hexs it can be deadly. I usually discount the long range of most weapons as the "spray and pray" range and usually prefer energy weapons for it. base pilot (4) + long range (4) + movement mods (2 at least one for attacker and defender each) = a to hit of 10+... add in more movement mods and some terain and you are looking at 12+ for a regular pilot.
The heat effecency is pretty nice, i'll give ya that. In the middle ranges it does ok, but i find mechs either stand off, or close quickly and at both ranges its out gunned.
Would I use one if I had one... sure. Would it be my prefered mech, probably not. Be interested to see how it plays out on the field though. I think you'll find its to easy for someone to get around and get off some nice back shots on it though.
Keep up the good wook lafeel, and take everything I say with a grain of salt

Probably won't be refitted that extensively. The Wobblies don't exist (not as anything you'd recognize) in the alternate universe this design's fluff is set in. Think more field refits as opposed to factory rebuilds.

Apologies for the double post, but here's a refitted version for you guys.
Code:
BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Great Bull GRB-11R Tech: Inner Sphere / 3067 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 2, Standard design
Mass: 100 tons Chassis: TTI-GRB Standard Power Plant: 300 Vlar Fusion Walking Speed: 32.4 km/h Maximum Speed: 54.0 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor Type: Durallex Standard Armament: 1 Johnston Parti-Cannon PPC 1 Federated 10-shot LRM 10 2 Mydron Excel LB 10-X ACs 4 ChisComp 39 Medium Lasers Manufacturer: Taurus Territorial Industries Location: Taurus Communications System: Magestrix Alpha Targeting & Tracking System: Magestrix Gamma
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== See the GBR-11L, which this is a variant of
==Capabilities:== A factory variant exists of the 11L, the 11R, which uses some advanced technology to improve the design.
Both autocannon are replaced with lbx models, presumably captured models from the Federated Suns, while the large laser is replaced by a PPC, also presumably from the same source.
Supplanting the left arm medium laser is a ten shot long range missile launcher, giving the mech some extra long range capability, but with only ten reloads, this capability is very limited.
The supplanted medium laser is now mounted in the left torso, with a fourth one added in the right torso, adding even more short ranged firepower to the design.
To be able to mount this new equipment, the refit sports thirteen double heat sinks in place of the original's twenty standard ones. While a definitive improvement in some areas, the use of captured equipment, not all of which the Taurians have the capability to reverse engineer, means that the design is unlikely to see action unless Taurus itself is attacked.
==Deployment== Limited to units deployed on Taurus itself, the refitted version has seen no action yet.

Much better. Out of curiosity... what advanced tech is avaliable to the TC at this time frame for your alternante universe?

I would have preferred an ER PPC over the standard, however...the LRM 10 doesn't get that good of rolls.

Pretty much anything you can see them getting their hands on, either through reverse engineering of stuff they got while the Trinity Alliance was till going (it still is, just they are no longer a part of it), or have captured from their neighbours. edit: Quote:

True, but for the former, a ER PPC would be much harder for them to aquire, while the ppc is used in both Sentry's and (pre refit) Manticores, while the lrm is from the Valk.
After all the Fed's don't exacly guard their periphery border with their most advanced equipment, as far as I know.
