In reguler B-tech rules Mechs seem to have crapy night vision, as if they do not have any.
Yet we know they do have IR sights, we also know that infantry equiped with IR sights can pick up mechs at up to 10km (per the RPG).
So how would one discribe a mechs night fighting capabilitys?

The rules-based answer is "crappy, with significant penalties." However, darkness penalties are not tournament-level rules. They're in Tactical Operations, and thus entirely optional.
So, if you don't like night fighting penalties, you can do what I do: ignore them for units with decent sensors, and that's entirely canonical for tournament-level games.
