In the years before the Clan invasion the Inner Sphere was undergoing something of a technical renaissance. Many new Battlemechs, tanks and fighters were designed, and technologies long lost were put back into production. Most were resounding successes.
The Orca was not one of those.
In the frenzied rush to make the best of the Star League Memory Core, Wangker Aerospace decided to have another go at constructing a LAM. Inspired and headed by Doctor Ivonar, whose doctorate (and place at Wangker Aerospace) was given to him more for his family money and shares in Wangker Aerospace than for any engineering skill, the project was intended to create a brand new Land Air Mech, breaking the believed 55 ton maximum weight for a LAM. The new 60 ton LAM was named ‘Osprey’.
After several months of construction, the first launch ended up with the Osprey failing to achieve lift off, but succeeding in demolishing a building. The second launch saw the Osprey managing to make it almost 13 feet into the air before it landed several seconds later.
Not deterred by the apparent failures so far, Dr. Ivonar decided to attempt a launch from a great height, believing that this would allow the Osprey to fly successfully. The third launch was made from a Dropship as it was lifting off Axton.
The Osprey managed to move about half a mile from where it started off, insufficient to call the project a success, but sufficient for the Osprey’s pilot to be forced to land in the ocean.
The result of the ocean landing shocked all involved. The Osprey landed in the water- and kept on moving. Due to the strange positioning of the engines, and the sheer size of the wings, the Osprey was not only able to keep itself afloat; it was able to keep on moving. Fast.
Though the project to reinvent the LAM failed spectacularly, the scientists realized that they had created the first Land-Ocean Mech, and renamed the Osprey as the Orca. The weapons system was reorganized to take advantage of the fact that the mech could reliably be expected to be on the water most of the time, and steering mechanisms were added. The entire thing was then streamlined to optimize it for ocean travel.

The fluff is great, adds a lot of character and depth to the mech.
The weapons are interesting. You have a good mix of ranges covered and you didn't go with ammo feed weapons which is a good thing.
Over all not bad. Now the tonnage is off for a LAM, which we know is one of the reasons it didn't work as a LAM. Now your new class of mech is both different and interesting. Nice job.
