The 'trap has always bothered me a bit. It is neither fish nor fowl as it's a attempt to make a Centurion on a five tons lighter chassis. And as often happens the end result does not match well with the intention.

So here's my take on how to make a better Wolftrap.

Code:
Kami Tora

Overview:
The roots of the Kami Tora (“Divine Tiger”-ed) date back to the Tora design of
the late 3040's, which is better known by the name it was given by the MIIO,
namely the Wolf Trap.

Sadly the original design had suffered terribly against
clan opponents and the fact that most people seemed to consider it, for some
strange reason, the Combine's answer to the Wolfhound, a ten tons lighter mech,
did not help matters any. Quite to the contrary the Wolf Trap soon gained a
very poor reputation and production was discontinued in the early
3060's.

However later the DCMS came to the conclusion that while the Tora was
itself a failed design the chassis was sound and it could be used as the basis
for a entirely new mech, which eventually came into being as the Kami Tora.

Capabilities:
While the Tora's endo steel chassis was retained the rest of the design was
completely re worked, and the first thing to go was the earlier design's
vunerable extralight engine which was rejected both on cost and survivability
grounds.

Instead a new 225 rated standard engine was installed in the chassis,
along with five jump jets, which was felt to be more than sufficient to make up
for the loss in straight line speed due to the less powerfull engine, while
using a standard engine greatly improved the mech's durability.

Of course this
would mean that the original design's weaponry would have to be replaced but
seeing as they were making a completely new design in effect the designers felt
that it was going to be needed anyway.

Eventually the combined LAW/CA think
tank decided on a similar weapon loadout to the PNT 15K, as after all several
of the CA designers had been on that design team as well, and indeed a slightly
heavier trooper mech was considered as the best option given the tonnage
remaining on the chassis.

For a primary weapon the designers picked the Lord's
Light 2 extended range particle projector cannon, which while somewhat heat
inducing, had seen use on numerous DCMS designs as far back as the early
3050's, and had a rock solid reputation for reliability. To back this up they
installed a single multiple missile launcher, identical to the one used in the
Panther, while a arm mounted extended range medium laser and a C3 slave, which
was felt to be a must in this modern age, rounded out the weapon loadout.

To
solve the issue with the Tora's armor, the original's standard armor was
replaced with more modern light ferro fibrous materials, improving the armor
protection to virtually the maximum the frame could mount.

As a final gesture
the Tora's appearance was completely reworked, emerging as considerably more
cat like, indeed it could be considered a bigger half brother to the new
versions of the Panther that had entered service with the DCMS earlier.

Deployment:
As of early 3076 the Kami Tora is only just re entering service with the DCMS,
and has barely even begun to shed the image it's predecessor had.

However,
those pilots that have been assigned to the rewamped design have, after giving
it the chance it deserves, had very few complaints at all, indeed it seems
likely that the Kami Tora becomes a stable among the Combine's medium mech
lances.

Now it has a logical place, as a medium trooper, or a larger Panther if you prefer.

Interesting way of revamping it. I like it and can see it as something that would eventually see the light of day for the DCMS. Could you post the HMP file for download?

Created in in SSW as it seems that HMP and Vista don't really like each other sadly.:(

I have not had any issues with HMP in Win7, now HM Lite on the other hand...

Vee and Aero and BA work find in Win7....

I have SSW, was given the program by a buddy when he wanted the original MechWorks program, so I can read the file...
