What I like (tremendously) about BattleTech:
The freedom to customize 'Mech designs, according to objective rules that apply to all 'Mechs.
The mix of FASA's original 'Mechs with the Unseen 'Mechs from Macross/Dougram/Crusher Joe.
The challenge of fighting Clan opponents with Inner Sphere technology. [Real men use Inner Sphere 'Mechs!]
The near-masterpiece that is Technical Readout: 3025. [It is missing only the Longbow and the Samurai.]
What I didn't like (eventually) about BattleTech:
The loss of the Unseen 'Mechs and their metal miniatures from Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals. [Thank God for eBay!]
The assassination of popular characters such as Melissa Steiner-Davion, and the use of "doubles" for other characters.
The Lyran Alliance secession and the Word of Blake Jihad. [There were just too many factions to keep track of.]
Most of the new technology and 'Mech designs after approximately 3057.
