------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Wolf Trap, the Federated Commonwealth codename for House Kurita's answer to the Wolfhound, is a rubric likely to stick, even though the Draconis Combine will doubtless give it some Japanese name. This 'Mech has been on the drawing boards for years, only recently entering extensive field testing. One of the first completely new designs to emerge since the recovery of Star League technology, it will be a bellwether to see if other realms, such as the Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation, rush to produce new designs instead of revamping old ones. Nearing production at a top-security wing of Luthien Armor Works, the Wolf Trap is expected to be a blend of proven systems and advanced technology. Several prototypes were submitted, but ultimately the DCMS went with the WFT-1 over the WTF-1-2.
==Capabilities:== Prototypes have extra-light engines and Endo Steel internal structure, the WFT-1-2 was experimenting with Ferro-Fibrous armor; giving it additional 21% more armor coverage over standard Durallex Super Medium (the Durallex Super Medium FF armor was imported from Defiance Industries on Hesperus II, six people from LAW resigned after rejection of the WFT-1-2 and this fact was found out for not using an armor from inside the Combine). The advanced engine provides good speed, and so the designers have not equipped the Wolf Trap with jump jets. The weapons mix is not one that generates great amounts of heat, and so the Wolf Trap prototypes do not have bulky double heat sinks.
The 'Mech's weaponry is designed to deliver heavy damage at long range; this is done with Poland A Main Model A Gauss Rifle (again, imported from Defiance Industries and resulting in another seven people resigning from the chief manager of the project to three of the division leads along with one of the techs and two assistant techs who installed the gun) supplied with three tons of ammo for 24 shots. Backing up the gauss rifle are two Victory 23R Medium Lasers (same as the WFT-1) and a single Magna Mark I Small Laser (left overs from revamped Chargers as they were upgraded from fast and laughable scouts of the Succession Wars to CGR-3K first encountered in the War of 3039 and the Clan Invasion) in the left arm for dealing with infantry.
Sadly, the WFT-1-2 fell out of favor over the multi-role WFT-1 and the turmoil left after the debacle from importing products from a weapon producer of the Draconis Combine's enemies. If the prototype had continued to perform well and perhaps the Clans had invaded a year earlier, the WFT-1-2 Wolf Trap could of been in production within six months and far sooner then the Battle of Luthien in 3052 that eventually softened relations between the DC and its enimity towards foreign nations or manufacturers.
==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:== No notable mechwarriors ever piloted the WFT-1-2 as it never saw mech to mech combat, the only Mechwarrior to ever pilot this mech was the test pilot reassigned along with the only test production model of the WFT-1-2 to the garrisons of Luthien and forgotten for a few years until he fought in the front lines of the Battle of Luthien. He was providing cover fire for his unit to retreat from an advancing Nova Cat Trinary; in the process of destroying a Fenris (a mech of similar weight but greater speed) configured with the ALT-A variation (giving the odds in fire power of a LB-X 2 vs a Gauss Rifle to the WFT-1-2) his back became exposed to a Loki, the Fenris went down and the pilot of the Wolf Trap fired again at a Dasher chasing his comrades limping away. The Dasher promptly became a smoking wreck when the gauss round punctured the left torso and set off the fusion engine...zellbrigen was broken and the Loki burned the Wolf Trap from behind.
Takashi Kurita witnessed this event himself from the seat of his Grand Dragon and ordered a battalion of his Dragon's Claws to advance the five kilometers (well within his Son's orders to stay put unless *he* ordered his father's unit to march and plug the gaps in the front lines) to annihilate the Nova Cat trinary that could of broken past the front lines and marched towards Luthien unopposed. The Coordinator; never knowing of the WFT-1-2 and the pilot assuming it to be a WFT-1, was astounded by the abilities of the pilot and honored the unknown pilot's death with a haiku.
==Deployment== The WFT-1-2 was intended to be a heavy weapon support mech for scout lances and mobile flankers for slower advancing forces. Sadly, the DCMS went with the WTF-1 Wolf Trap; lighter multi-role mech that was cloned from the CN9-D Centurion released in the same time period.

It impressed me that the same weapon's package was used, but it lacked one ton of ammo for the LRM and an artemis IV...it was the exact same mech as the Cenutrion with a different graphic. Reworking a bit based on athe "Bear Trap" variant....I like the 3025 and 3050 era Tech1/2 more so then anything beyond what the IS gets because it seems there is more backround to play with for fluff.
