==Overview:==

For years unstable Lord Jonathan Cameron devoted vast Star League Defense
Force (SLDF) resources towards automated space defense systems which helped
the League’s focus of fortifying Hegemony worlds. Mother Jocasta Cameron
assumed most of the first Lord’s duties in 2734 and, in response to the
increase of the Star League Member States militaries, issued the New Arms
Order of 2735 which would help the SLDF maintain its superiority with new
ships and weapons. Before Jocasta Cameron took control of the finances, Lord
Cameron embarked on a number of automated space defense projects, including
one code named Charon. It is thought that the fearsome machine was named after
the ferryman in Terran Greek mythology who carried the newly arrived dead
across the river Styx to the world of the dead.

The Charon is an automated warship designed to take on an entire fleet if
necessary. The automation was made possible through the installation of a
prototype artificial intelligence (AI) system which enables the ship to
conduct maintenance and perform repairs via small robots. The interior is
heavily compartmentalized and defended by robots and weapon turrets with a
layout similar to a conventional Warship. The automated systems and robots
taking up the rough equivalent in tonnage and requirements of a normal crew.

The Charon prototype automated warship can perform any of the functions,
including a KF Jump, that a manned warship is capable of. The design has two
main weaknesses. The first is its ammunition dependence. When the Charon runs
out of missiles, its energy backup weapons are woefully inadequate for a ship
of its size. The second is its actions are limited to its programming. All of
the ships systems are heavily shielded against ECM type effects and, for
security reasons, its programming can only be altered by boarding the vessel.
There may be emergency situations where the Charon could be used elsewhere and
an intelligent enemy may be able to predict and exploit the design's
behavioral patterns.

Due to secrecy and the awesome destructive power of the design, it was built
and supposed to be tested on an asteroid approximately 16 parsecs Coreward of
Hood IV. The testing facility was essentially a space dock housed in an
asteroid which would make it very difficult to detect. When the Charon began
its testing, it went berserk, and disappeared after destroying the testing
facility and a SLDF Cruiser.

I don't see a listing (tonnage) for the Caspar-style automated control systems. The name is eluding me right now, but they have been published. Or did I overlook them?

Note that canonically, Reagan network defense drones had their KF drives castrated after a manned delivery flight. The drones were unpredictable with a jumping option open to them. If they needed to be moved to another star system, a human crew would board and temporarily install key components of the KF drive.

The weapon array is interesting. Against canonical ships, it is a crit-generating death machine. (I'd recommend swapping killer whales for white sharks. Killer whales have more punch, but that's not saying much when you're talking about capital missiles. Rather, it's all about the crit chance, and that's where white sharks win.)

You didn't overlook the tonnage for automation. It was a design I thought of before automated rules were published. I basically used crew related tonnage for the equivalent of automation. Edit: I just found where those rules are located. I haven't decided whether I'll leave the design as is or implement those newer rules.
