------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== After the Clan defeat on Luthien, the Draconis Combine began to develop a new series of mechs to replace older aging designs and free up more advanced mechs from reserve units for front line duty. One of the designs selected for the latter was the Ashigaru, a 45 ton medium mech built specifically as a second line unit, using already existing stockpiles of non-advanced technology, save for an endo-steel frame.
==Capabilities:== The Ashigaru receives it name for the "foot soldiers" of the ancient feudal Japanese era on Terra. As name implies, it is a very simple design meant for low ranking or freshly graduated soldiers and has very little outstanding characteristics other then being quick and affordable to produce.
A 180 GM Fusion engine allows the Ashigaru to cruise up to 64.8 km/h. Eight and a half tons of standard armor cover its frame, providing adequate protection from incoming fire. Ten single heatsinks dissipate its fairly low heat curve. Four jump jets, available thanks to the use of an endo-steel frame, provide enough lift to propel the mech 120 meters.
The Ashigaru's primary weapon is a class 10 autocannon mounted in the right arm, giving it moderate punch out to medium ranges. A single SRM-4 fixed in the center torso increases its short range fire power. A medium laser in the left arm rounds out its fire power. Almost as an after thought a small laser was installed in the head forward of the cockpit. Most mechwarriors simple perfer to disconnect the small weapon rather then use it, as the heat from firing the laser can overwhelm the cockpit air circulation system.
==Variants:== There are no variants of the Ashigaru. Instead, the Draconis Combine does field the Tanegashima, which appears similar in appearance to Ashigaru, except having upgrades systems and lacking jump capability.

Type/Model: Tanegashima TAN-M1 Tech: Inner Sphere / 3050 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 2, Standard design
Mass: 45 tons Chassis: Endo Steel Power Plant: 180 GM Fusion Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor Type: Ferro-Fibrous Armament: 1 LB 10-X AC 1 Medium Pulse Laser 1 SRM 4 1 LRM 5 1 Small Laser Manufacturer: (Unknown) Location: (Unknown) Communications System: (Unknown) Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Tanegashima was produced in limited numbers as a possible upgrade of the Ashigaru for front line duty, pending battle field review.
==Capabilities:== Named after a type of ancient matchlock firearm produced in feudal Japan, the Tanegashima fields more advanced technology then the Ashigaru. The new mech removes the jumpjets and upgrades the armor to ferro-fiberous, upgrading existing weaponry and adding a missile launcher.
An LB10-X autocannon replaces the standard model. The medium laser is upgraded to the pulse variety, increasing accuracy. An LRM-5 is mounted next to the SRM-4 in the center torso. The head mounted small laser remains the same, except the manufacturer removed the ability for "manually disengaging" the system. The air circulation system has been upgrading as well.

Nicely done. The fluff sells the mechs. Both are decent and fit the House thinking levels and keep with in their abilities!

Thanks. These two designs and the Gonne I created when I was going through a Faction-45er Phase-a 45 tonner themed for each faction. I couldn't create anything that stood out for Marik, Steiner, and Davion.

After initial testing the Bushi proved to be a good design to guard rear areas, freeing up more advanced mechs for frontline duty. Capability: The Bushi is slow, but carries an AC/5 and PPC as its main weaponry and three medium lasers and machineguns for close-in work. Ideal for garrison and riot duty, the Bushi is a very cost-effective machine. Battle History: Variants: Famous Mechs and Warriors: Deployment:
