The third is a lightweight designed for reconnaissance. In order to protect it decently it possesses heavy ferro-fibrous armor, but even with that it's a bit thin. It's armament is okay for a mech intending to encounter mostly infantry; the salamander's twin ER Flamers provide accurate burns over impressive distances, though it often may unintentionally cause forest fires. A small vibro blade is present, as all 1st gen mechs have melee weapons. The most prized piece of equipment though is it's TAG laser, which can guide homing LRMs and artillery to their targets.
The Salamander is especially useful when offshore battleships are present. A favorite tactic is to hide outside an enemy camp, TAG the location of a commander's tent, and watch a single shell smash it to oblivion and cause the americans to panic.
