Why not make it a hover craft so it can get into the fight faster.

Your motive system would be more vulnerable and you couldn't carry as many AP Gauss Rifles.

Number of hexes moved could off set the vulnerability to a point and so your lose a couple of AP Gausses, not the end of the world.

Until of course you hit somewhere even slightly wooded or rough terrain where you will want to slow down to cruising or risk accidentally skidding into a light woods in a combat situation. That and you can't really support your BA after dropping them off because if you get close you are at more of a risk of being immobilized.

Skidding into woods? What page is that on Retry?

When turning and moving at flanking speed at the same time, every time you turn you need to roll for skidding.
If that roll is failed you skid.
If you skid into a hex that you cannot normally occupy, IIRC, you die.
Hovercraft cannot enter woods
Therefore, skidding into woods in a hovercraft = death.

I believe that is only on a paved road not cross country moving.

Hovercraft suffer from skids during cross country moving as well.

Can't remember the exact page, but it's in Total Warfare, I'm thinking p.63 for some reason. Wheeled and Tracked skid on pavement only, hover rolls for a skid on any terrain.
If I got the page wrong, check "sideslip" in the index.

Unless they updated that, I believe hovercraft can NOT enter woods.
As for the skidding, I do believe that is only on pavement. Then again retry caught you once with the hover craft. They are still limited to 50 tons...
Honestly with the weapons, this is a main battle tank, unless the gauss rifles can't damage mech or something else like that.

As for posting it and it not working. I have hit the back arrow a few times before realizing I didn't hit the continue button at the bottom of the screen. I think that may have been the issue of it not posting

The firepower is only sufficient to support BA against lighter elements. Heavy mechs and stuff and it can't do much at all, considering the lack of range of the AP Gauss rifles.
Checking a PDF of TW. Looks like pg.62 currently.

Okay, so hovercraft don't skid but they "sideslip". It's basically the same thing. I find the terms similar enough to be reasonably interchangable.
