Bit of an odd idea I've been playing around with. No fluff yet - considering making it a blend of canon and FGC Niops post 3145, as FGC Niops fielded BLR-1Gb Royal BattleMasters, making this an amusing RetroTech replacement for those and Niops' Highlanders.
Went with RetroTech rather than Prmitive because of the command console (I like 2 seats on my BLRs), and jump jets to offset some of the loss of mobility, which, in turn, meant losing the SRMs. Other options include making this the BLR-1Pc, with the standard BLR-1P swapping the command console for six RL-10 packs, or 2 RL-10s and anti-personnel guns. You could also swap all six medium lasers forward, but that could lead tons potential heat issues with only 16 single heat sinks.
Edit: Non-command-console version posted below as the BLR-1P, with the command console version renamed the BLR-1Pc.

Oh, I agree entirely.
Worked up a straight combat version, as well:

A little off the subject, but I like this display for stats. Give all the information at a glance without having to read every last thing to see what it has.
Don't know why, but when I see primitive, I expect club type weapons. But this does look like something that is still dangerous to other mechs without all that high tech stuff.

Interesting. You got most of the high points of a Battlemaster on a primitive chassis. Nicely done.
I was close to posting the Battlemaster that went with the Goblin I posted a couple of weeks ago. I think I'll post the Victor first.

I also tried doing a 75-ton "Warlord" version, and found, interestingly enough, you end up losing 2 tons of available mass on a 75-ton, 3/5 primitive BattleMech compared to an 85-ton 3/5 one.
That said, it's still workable:
Code: BattleMaster BLR-0P
Mass: 75 tons Tech Base: Inner Sphere (Primitive) Chassis Config: Biped Rules Level: Era Specific Era: Dark Ages Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/X-X-F-A Production Year: 3132 Cost: 6,380,500 C-Bills Battle Value: 1,531

================================================================================ Equipment Type Rating Mass -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Internal Structure: Primitive Structure 114 points 7.50 Engine: Primitive Fusion Engine 270 14.50 Walking MP: 3 Running MP: 5 Jumping MP: 3 Standard Jump Jet Locations: 1 CT, 1 LL, 1 RL 3.00 Heat Sinks: Single Heat Sink 17 7.00 Heat Sink Locations: 2 LT, 2 RT, 1 RA, 1 LL, 1 RL Gyro: Standard 3.00 Cockpit: Primitive 5.00 Actuators: L: SH+UA+LA+H R: SH+UA+LA+H Armor: Primitive AV - 225 21.00
Internal Armor Structure Factor Head 3 9 Center Torso 23 36 Center Torso (rear) 10 L/R Torso 16 25 L/R Torso (rear) 7 L/R Arm 12 24 L/R Leg 16 29
================================================================================ Equipment Location Heat Critical Mass -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 Light PPCs RA 10 4 6.00 2 Medium Lasers RT 6 2 2.00 2 Medium Lasers LT 6 2 2.00 Light PPC LT 5 2 3.00 (R) Medium Laser CT 3 1 1.00 Free Critical Slots: 26

A command console version is also straightforward: either lose jump jets or the third light PPC.

Flatterer.

That is interesting. I didn't think about the impact of primitive tech on weight efficiency sweet spots.

LOL. What can I say, I like the idea. Also, in my non-canon 3145 Niops, I'd only had 'em making 270-rating engines, which won't work for a full, 85-ton BLR, but would for a 75-ton one, making it a nice alternative to my retrotech Black Knight.

It's not so much the primitive tech here as it is the speed. In fact, with Intro tech, it's even more pronounced:
75-ton, 3/5 BattleMech: 51.5 tons available for armor/weapons 85-ton, 3/5 BattleMech: 57.5 tons available for armor/weapons
The mass curve for engines under 300-rating increases much more slowly than those of over 300-rating, so the base 225-rating engine for the 75-tonner is 10 tons, but the 255-rating engine for the 85-tonner is only 13 tons. With only 1 ton gained in structural mass, your fixed mass only goes up 4 tons, gaining you 6 tons of additional mass - you get to keep 60% of the additional mass towards more warload.
And, actually, it might even begin to peak earlier. Take the intro-tech 100-ton, 3/5 'Mech, with its 19-ton 300-rating engine and 10-ton internal structure. After factoring in fixed mass, it has 65 tons available for weaponry and armor, only 7.5 tons more than an 85-ton 'Mech of the same speed, with the other 7.5 tons going to an increase in fixed mass.

That's an interesting point that probably explains the Stalker.
I never noticed that until you pointed it out. Unlike 4/6 and faster SFE designs, you do gain usable tonnage continuously to 100 tons with 3/5 designs and that was good enough for me. Meanwhile, the trouble with gaining more tonnage for large 4/6 designs was burned into my soul with the first 'Mech I ever designed, a 95-ton version of the Archer. All I managed on it was to add 2 extra tons of ammo.

I like it. Keeps the soul of the BLR while still making the change to primitive tech.
