MY BLURB: Name inspired by the Stone Rhino. Design inspired by...um...well...not sure actually. One of many attempts to incorporate an AC/20 into a better 100-ton design than the Atlas.
Thoughts?

besides having more ammo and another lrm 20, it suffers from the same issues. Once you run out, it is highly undergunned at longer ranges. Granted, the enemy is less likely to close with this then an archer.
Still. The increase in fire power with the dual launchers does mean the enemy is less likely to still be alive when you do run out of ammo for them.
I do wonder if the other arm actuators would make it more effective.
I would say it is a better option then the atlas.

I've always found BT ammo stocks to be a bit ridiculous...in order to stock enough ammo for a LRM 20 or AC/20 means filling up a lot of space with explosive death. My opinion is that pretty much anything 60 tons or more should be packing a Large Laser or PPC for sustainability. I don't always do it, but it makes practical sense.
Admittedly, this guy is pretty unlikely to run completely out of ammo in a single battle. Since range brackets and heat both discourage firing the LRMs and the AC in the same turn, you have total 27 turns' worth of effective firepower.

It's a good slugger who has range and then that nasty punch. Then again it could be seen as to slow by those that favor the brawling style of play vs those that would use it as fire support unit.
Suggest down grading to LRM15s and putting a Large Laser in there.

Speed...no sane designer in 3025 would try to make a 100-tonner go any faster...
The LRM-15 downgrade is of course a good idea...I much prefer the 15 to the 20 under most circumstances. Trading the AC/20 for an AC/10 also makes things interesting...frees up 8 tons plus any decrease in ammo...LL plus a few more Heat Sinks...maybe a couple more MLs.

I prefer a bunch of smaller LRMs. I have to look at weight again, but I believe that you save 2 tons over an LRM 20 by installing 4 LRM 5s.
The only drawback is multiple to-hit rolls and multiple missile hits rolls...which isn't really a drawback....
Plus ammo and heat management is more targeted.

If you use multiple tons of ammo, you can use different ammo types as well. And multiple lrm 5s are actually less heat. Buy a whole point, but still something. The large laser would make it have more endurance then the atlas. That was always an issue with me and the atlas. No long range energy weapon. I like a ppc, but the large laser works. A battery of lasers would make people stop getting in range of the 20, but dropping to the 10 makes a good pairing with the large laser.

LRM 20 = 10 tons, 6 heat 4xLRM 5 = 8 tons, 8 heat
If you add 2 Heat Sinks to even out the heat, you have identical tonnage. Same average damage. LRM 5s give you a flatter damage curve and greater flexibility.

Crits is not heat. Need to watch the tables closer. I screwed up. NOOO! I'm not perfect? What? Whip him.
The ammo types still are true. And as we talked about with the 'upgraded' mechs before, not having the fire 20 missiles at a stupid jeep is a good thing. Sometimes the 20's are overkill and a waste.

So...downgraded the LRMs to 15s, dropped 1 ton of ammo to keep the same supply of 12 shots/launcher. Swapped out the AC/20 for a AC/10, dropped one on of ammo. Added a Large Laser in the RT, a Medium Laser in each arm, and 3 more Heat Sinks.
Overall, a small drop in long-range firepower, but greatly increased damage in the mid-ranges thanks to the Large and the improved AC range. More potential damage in close at the cost of some overheat, but better ammo endurance with the AC and more options if the big gun takes a crit. Improved firing arcs with the MLs in the arms.
SSW tells me BV has dropped by 17, but I think unless the fight stays exclusively outside 15 hexes, this variant is much more effective. And if long-range combat is your primary concern, dropping a Medium for an extra ton of LRM ammo extends your staying power to 16 rounds.

Okay are you including the hand and lower arm actuators? If you are then SSW has the wrong remaining critical space left.
Also the price is wrong with/with out the actuators.

Arm actuators are removed on both TTH models. I can't comment about the cost, I just include whatever numbers SSW throws out.
