Due to a series of incidents within the Lyran Thumb, First lord Kurita of the Star League announces he will dispatch a SLDF unit (DCMS in all but name) to assume a peacekeeping role on these worlds. Thus he effectively annexes these worlds for the Draconis Combine.
Katherine is unable to do anything …. the worlds are annexed ….
Now let us discuss what, “in my opinion,” would have really happened.....
Katerine, may be many things but acting the wall flower is not one of these …
Brinkmanship and the application of force is how she would fix Theodore’s designs upon her Lyran’s Thumb into becoming part of the Draconis Combine.
First, she would announce that unless the DCMS and Coordinator Theodore Kunita’s units vacate the thumb within 72 hours the Lyran Alliance will leave the Star League and Declare War upon the Draconis Combine…. (note how I use his title as Coordinator and not First Lord).
Knowing her brother as she does, she would know Victor would come to her support as her brother rather than the leader of the Federated Suns. Thus Victor declares his support for his sister and also threatens the Draconis Combine putting his forces on a war footing…..
Thomas Marik, at this time is considered to be Primus in Exile by the Word of Blake would be receiving multiple communicates from the Word of Blake ….. in a nut shell, fix it!, fix it!, fix it! ……
Thomas, ever the peace maker would then attempt to become the mediator for peace ….
ComStar would pick up on this and offer a solution …. A change in SLDF peacekeepers within the Lyran thumb … from DCMS to that of ComGuard ….
Katherine would acquiesce, as long as it was understood that the Thumb was Lyran Territory and not Combine Territory.
Theodore Kurita, now outmanoeuvred, by having the Lyran Alliance, Federated Suns, Free Wolds League, and ComStar opposing him will have to recall his forces … in exchange for that of the ComGuard ….
As this is happening, (if your realm still has the Capellans as in mine the 3039 war killed them off), then Sun-Tzu would be sitting there observing like a spider in his web learning how to destabilize – and turn such a situation into his best interests …. All the while not making any comment on the situation ….
Thomas Marik, acting as the peacemaker once again, would suggest to all Star League members that this situation must never be allowed to happen again …. He would suggest at the next Star League meeting an addition to the memorandum – (here comes the Lawyers) ….. A law whereby the First Lord can only direct the SLDF towards external threats only …. Or ….. if peacekeepers are required internally they are forbidden to come from the First Lord’s own Military units, they must be an independent unit and with the agreement of the Lord of the realm they are to enter into, to act as peacekeepers upon worlds within that Lord’s realm…….
Thus Sun-Tzu’s use of this tactic in the future does not occur (if he is alive that is)…..
