The “secret society” add a sense of the dark unknown mystery power, that works within the shadows and in hidden rooms, that small shadow society whose membership is restricted to the select few and who enforce their hidden will upon ‘ignorant’ collective masses to achieve their dark and sinister goals.
For the Inner Sphere such examples included The Back Dragon Society or Heimdall.
This in turn has led to “crackpots” who shout out to the world their conspiracy theories regarding these sinister societies.
So to start the ball rolling this page will dedicated to my fellow “crakcpots” and their conspiracy theories throughout the Inner Sphere and Beyond ….
Theory One: The Clans secret society known as the “The Society”.
A secret society of Clan scientists whose deep resentment toward the warrior caste throughout the centuries, who, have carefully woven a plot in anticipation of the day when they would force the warriors from power and replacing their brute force approach with that of the intellectual mind.
To this end they have developed their own scientific breakthroughs from genetics, to the development of secret weapons – including advanced communications.
To this end their society has also needed hidden locations from which to operate where they would have the freedom to further their plans, away from the attention of the warriors or the purges that were to follow on the Clan Home Wolds when their plans fell short and the Clan Worlds Society members were exposed.
However, all is not lost, prior to this, many of the scientists were able to relocate into the Inner Sphere and divest themselves of their warrior overlords, establishing hidden research facilities throughout the Inner Sphere during times of extreme anarchy such as the Jihad and other times when the warrior’s attention was upon the war and not on that of their other castes.
For reasons yet to be fully realized, it was these Clan scientists who infected the HPG network grid – destroying nearly 80% - and condemning the Inner Sphere to the Dark Age!!
Could it be that this was just a test gone horribly wrong!
Or could it be all part of their master plan – a way of removing all the warriors (and thereby creating a power vacuum) from the Inner Sphere …. by creating a time of unimaginable chaos that will pit all the warriors against each other – and thereby reducing their numbers to minimum.
And in the aftermath humanity would look around at the devastation wrought by the warriors and demand new leadership …. the leadership of the rational mind …. the leadership of the scientist!!!

Color me a huge fan of this idea. I thought the concept of The Society was fascinating, and in hindsight kind of obvious; that the 'brains' of the Clan civilization might understandably resent not being in charge. It would make perfect sense that they had a Plan B in the event that their coup attempt failed, and probably a Plan C, D, E, etc.

Theory Two: Dr. Devon Cortland and his Word of Blake weapon systems.
During the Word of Blake’s recent Jihad Dr. Devon Cortland was their lead designer for the Celestial series OmniMechs, Demon Series Battle Armour as well as the Spectral OmniFighters and he may have influenced the designs for the Serpentus Series of vehicles and the Spectral LAMs.
In October 3078, after a loss in faith with the Master and the Word of Blake he surrendered to elements of the Northwind Highlanders.
And on December 30th 3078 he was debriefed by Lin Murakami on Rigil Kent, which would later become a part of the Republic of the Sphere.
Considering the effectiveness of the weapons he manufactured for the Word of Blake (as well as all the other weapons systems the Word of Blake developed for the Jihad War) would it not be inconceivable that either a Great House or a very well connected military industry complex acquired the services of someone who’s medical prosthetics and engineering abilities bear a striking resemblance to the former Word of Blake engineer who went by the name of Dr. Devon Cortland?
Thus, would there not appear sometime after the end of the Jihad a series of ‘Mechs, BattleArmour, OmniFighters, Vehicles and LAMs etc. that have their origins based upon Word of Blake designs and are now being developed and utilized by a certain Great House or Military Industrial Complex?
Or/-
Could it not be argued that during the Jihad certain documents / engineering plans and captured “machinery” found their way to certain organizations or Great Houses who then began a reverse engineering program?
Thus in all probability should there not have been a second generation of these weapons been implemented into the armies of the Inner Sphere because of their combat effectiveness during the Jihad?
The question then must be asked as to why they have not yet been deployed?
Thus, could there be a hidden plan by one of the Great Houses or military Industrial Complexes to use these second generation weapons when they will cause the most damage toward their rivals?
And if so who is in control of them?
Or/-
Could it not also be speculated that, the Republic of the Sphere’s desire for peace and limitations on who could utilise an advanced weapon system, such as a BattleMech, though enacted with the best of intentions was not the entire truth of the matter.
As they do not live in an idealistic world as those who surround them believe in peace through military dominance.
Could they not have done what the previous residents of Terra and Mars had done in the past?
That of ComStar and their hidden weapons depots and hidden training facilities - all for the day when they will be required once more.
For were not all of these original weapon systems made on both Terra and Mars?
So were the Gibson (Terra and Mars) manufacturing facilities truly destroyed – or were they just ‘reassigned’ to a new location, repaired and have since been rearming the Republic for the day when they will be required once more, however this time on the side of justice?
Where once the Draconis Combine had Ghost Regiments the Republic has Shadow Knight / Black Knight Regiments in hiding?
And as promised if the Republic needed him Stone would return - now at the head of this Shadow Knights / Black Knights units.
So how would the Wolf Empire fare if they invaded now?

Theory Three: Khan Daisuke Kurita
Was the murder of the Coordinator in mid-3130 and his entire family planned due to one man’s envy and greed or was it preordained by a higher power?
As is it ‘coincidental’ or could it have been ‘planned’ that with the death of Coordinator Vincent Kurita and his entire blood line, who were killed off in various methods in such a short period of time, that with these actions would also allow for both Matsuhari Toranaga to be promoted to the position of Gunji no Kanrei and at this same time allow Toranaga’s ‘prodigy’ (or is she more to the point his “puppet”?) Yori Sakamoto, now Yori Kurita, to ascend the Dragon Throne and become the new Coordinator of the Combine shortly thereafter?
Is there to be a wedding or funeral for Yori in the near future, both in which Toranaga will feature prominently?
Or/- Is the current Draconis Combine history truly accurate?
Is there yet another heir to Dragon Throne who has been hidden away from the day of his birth until the day he can reclaim his birthright?
For a person such as Toranaga he would consider Clan Nova Cat’s mysticism to be the worthless superstitions of the mad?
And yet the Nova Cats mysticism is at the core of their existence where a spiritual event, through the Rite of Vision, a form of pyromancy, divinations may occur.
And yet Emi Kurita, Vincent Kurita’s daughter and Keeper of House Honor, went into hiding with the protection of the Nova Cats, where she also conceived a child of the true line of Kurita blood. Then
with the aid of Katana Tormark’s Dragon’s Fury they rebelled against Coordinator Yori Kurita in what would be known as the Draconis Combine Civil War.
Unfortunately the forces of Matsuhari Toranaga were stronger and the forces loyal to Emi were brutally suppressed – this included the complete destruction of Clan Nova Cat.
And history would recount that Emi decided to take her own life and that of her son, Daisuke, with poison rather than see both of them paraded and/or executed as an example.
However had Emi faked her death once previously and could this not have all been seen in the fire, a divination – a premonition - by a warrior of the Nova Cats.
That with the suicide of Emi and a counterfeit Daisuke Kurita and with the sacrifice of the majority of Clan Nova Cat now, would in time lead to a Clan Nova Cat rebirth, a golden age for the Nova Cats.
That when under the command of the future Khan Daisuke Kurita they will retake the Draconis Combine from Matsuhari Toranaga and thus Daisuke assumes his true birthright and becomes the Khan - Coordinator of the Draconis Combine!.
And the only other person, outside Clan Nova Cats in exile, who knows of this is Katana Tormark, who is biding her time waiting for her true liege lord to wield her as his implement of vengeance.

In addition to Theory Three
So could it be that the "true" scion for House Kurita is now with the Spirit Cats within the Clan Protectorate (located within the Free Worlds League)
and has anyone else been brought into the secret of his identity?
Theory Four: Loki and the Kwamashu Incident
The official historical version of the Kwamashu Incident occurred on February 7th 3138, where the Oriente Protectorate’s elite battalion, the Eagle’s Talons, raided an active BattleMech assembly plant. Though there is no corroborating evidence to this effect, in doing so the Eagles talon caused an explosion in which the subsequent toxic fallout killed the majority of the planetary population within weeks and rendering the planet barely habitable for decades to come.
This event triggered a war between the Oriente Protectorate and the Duchy of Andurien that lasted several months.
However the question must be asked who would gain in such a situation?
Rumours persist that a Republic of the Sphere’s Exarch dispatched a Ghost Knight and it was he that set off the device. And that there are in fact two “authentic” footages blaming both the Oriente Protectorate and the Duchy of Andurien for the disaster.
Then how would a war between the Oriente Protectorate and the Duchy of Andurien benefit the Republic of the Sphere?
In July of 3137 the Commonwealth had launched a “Pre-emptive invasion” of the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth and the Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey.
And by February 3138 Clan Wolf had joined the invasion.
Could the reality be that this agent provocateur was not a Ghost knight and may have been actually a member of Loki in disguise – as Archon Melissa Steiner II worried that the Free Worlds League successor states would either attack the Commonwealth - thus a war between the successor states would slow any retaliatory strike actions against her Commonwealth Forces.
& / Or /-
Worse yet Jessica Marik, the sole remaining child of the fake Thomas Marik, could be soon in a position to re-establish the Free Worlds League under one ruler –Though if she sent her Eagle Talons to destroy the assembly plant on Kwamashu with a WMD, whom would trust her as the new Captain-General of the Free Worlds League?
Thus keeping the former Free Worlds League states fragmented and off balance and easier to conquer.
Thus Loki created the plan too fit both scenarios and she gave her approval for its execution.

Theory Five: Clan Wolverine’s Doctor Vaun – the Father of the “The Society”
Doctor Vaun was Clan Wolverine’s leading expert in developing new ways in combining genetic coding for producing the next generation of warriors, prior to Clan Wolverines exodus from the Clan Home worlds (during the Trial on Annihilation).
However, rather than joining the exodus (due to his age) he elected to remain behind on the Clan Home Worlds.
Though due to his technical expertise he was adopted by Clan Ghost Bear where he assisted them in developing new ways to combine genetic coding, and in time they came to trust him.
Though, three years after Vaun’s death it became known to the Ghost Bear’s Khan that he had secretly switched out Clan Ghost Bear gene samples for that of Clan Wolverine samples and altered the records to cover up his crime in an effort to ensure his Clan’s survival one way or another.
Could it be he also had assistance with this crime or did he have an even more insidious revenge in mind to be used upon all the clans that destroyed his Wolverines?
Thus in his quest for vengeance upon the remaining 19 Clans did he covertly plant the seed with other clan scientists to form what the future would know as the “The Society”.
So, could it be that Doctor Vaun was the ‘father’ of the secret scientist cabal that would be to known in the future as “the Society”?
The same Society who had carefully woven a plot in anticipation of the day when they would force the warriors from power, thus replacing their leadership over the Clans with that of their own Caste (The Scientists).

Theory Six: Wolfs Dragoons other mission?
During October and November 2823, as per the ‘official Clans history’, has Clan Wolverines utilizing a nuclear weapon upon genetic repository of Clan Snow Raven, which resulted in a call for a Trial of Annihilation against the Wolverines.
Though being outnumbered and suffering heavy losses themselves Clan Wolf succeeded in wiping out the Wolverines.
Though a final report, dated the 22 January 2824, presented to the Grand Council noted discrepancies between official records and the battlefield kill tallies. Ultimately these were rationalized as a book keeping error many suspected that a part of Clan Wolverine had escaped.
Fast forward to 3000 - 3004
When it was decided a small unit of Clan Wolf warriors disguised as mercenaries would infiltrate the Inner Sphere, make an intelligence survey of the situation and report back, it would have been interesting to know if their orders included any intelligence regarding the now “not-named-Clan”.
However, given Nicholas’ purge of all information regarding the ‘Not-named-Clan’ from all official records (except for his own personal diary – That in the future will be known only to Clan Wolf’s Khan) you must wonder if it was even considered to enquire if any survivors did make it to the Inner Sphere as a personal mission that would be kept strictly within Clan Wolf.
So would they be given this additional task to enquire about the “not-named-Clan”?
and what would Wolfs Dragoons think about when confronted with all the documented history of the Minnesota tribe, including all the Conspiracy theories, and considering that they did use ‘Mechs on four worlds within the DC and then they just vanished without a trace.
Would they even conduct a search for them at this stage or would they consider them lost to history?
Was this information even given to Snord’s Irregulars? – with the purpose of fining any additional / historical information regarding the “not-named-Clan”.
So whilst Wolfs dragoons are wondering from one Great House to the next, setting up their own intelligence operation as they go, were they given instructions to look for them?
Or did it not even cross any-ones minds to even consider looking for them at all within the Inner Sphere? And if they did look for them at what stage do you believe they gave up?
Plus it would make for an interesting cover for a Clan Wolf spy acting as “Minnesota Tribe” groupie now and then if they were spotted by the Great Houses intelligence Operatives.
Probably think they’ve got another “wannabee conspiracy theorist” and right them off, then on to the next person on their list ….

Theory Seven: The 331St. and the WOB Shadow Divisions?
The Following WOB Shadow Divisions, which included the cybernetic ally augmented warriors known as the Manei Domini, were declared missing in action by the end of the Jihad.
40th Shadow Division – Last known location was Hesperus II
44th Shadow Division – Last Known location was New Avalon.
46th Shadow Division –Last known location was Circinus
48th Shadow Division –Last known location was Circinus
49th Shadow Division - Last Known location was Devil’s Rock.
50th Shadow Division – Last known location was New Earth.
So the question is what happened to them?
Are they just in hiding awaiting reactivation?
However considering the WOB forces were completely defeated by 3081-82 it is more likely these forces were completely destroyed, otherwise you would have assumed that they would have reappeared by 3150?
So who did destroy these units and in such a covert manner?
None of the conventional forces within the IS at the time would have destroyed a Shadow Division and not allowed the press to know of their defeat?
So we are thus down to a non-conventional force – so who would this force be?
Did the 331st (nee. Clan Wolverine) covertly slip into the IS and eliminate these forces with their advanced weaponry systems? Thus protecting the IS citizens from a genocidal warriors.
Or is there another military power, and unknown power assisting the IS and if they are why?

Theory Eight: Team Banzai and Dr B Banzai operative for the 331st (ex. Clan Wolverine) in the IS
Dr. B. Banzai is known for his scientific genius, as well as his peculiar mercenary regiment that are based on New Avalon’s NAIS almost constantly from its creation in 3015.
However, When you look at the Team Banzai Unit Insignia you may see two capitol letter “B’s” that are back to back.
Though, I suggest you have a relook at this insignia - could it also be two “3’s” where one is reversed and a number “1” in the middle – thus it is in fact a homage to the number “331”?
And we all know the 331st were Clan Wolverine.
Could it be that in an effort to protect the IS from the machinations of the Clans they sent one (or more) of their warrior scientists to New Avalon in an effort to advance their technology / military capability of the Strongest Great House whilst they were attached to NAIS in the years prior to the Clans Invasion?
Thus making the Great Houses as prepared as could prior to the invasion?
Could it be that maybe other 331st operatives made other contributions to the IS?
And if so what?
Did they have a hand in the union of the LC and the FS? Of one ….
I suggest that the 331st had a hand in many of the great changes in the IS … are they, the 331st, the new 'Illuminati' from when they returned to the IS?

Theory Nine: The Brotherhood of Cincinnatus and Heimdall
The Lyrans have produced many secret orders ….
One such was the Brotherhood of Cincinnatus – formed in 2889 – as a veteran’s group they espoused blatant nationalism and a belief in maintaining the “purity” of the Lyran realm.
This order even produced cell based terrorists – who conducted bombings aimed at supporters of Katrina Steiner and even the assassination of Olivia Fenlon who was the Federated Suns’ Minister of Foreign Relations during her visit to the Lyran Commonwealth in 3024.
Another Lyran order included ….
Heimdall, who are also cell a cell based group, and they were formed to be the loyal opposition who works to defend the people’s liberties when they believe the government (and Loki) have overstepped their bounds, thus they see themselves as the self-appointed guardians of the Lyran people.
Therefore, both of these two “Secret Lyran Orders” consider themselves as the guardians of the Lyran people;
And ….
There been no reports of Heimdall and the Brotherhood being in open conflict, one against the other, due to their different ideology.
Could it be that in reality The Brotherhood is the militant wing of Heimdall?
Thus giving the politically friendly Heimdall plausible deniability when a more “militant” action is required save the Lyran people from the mistakes of its government?
By working together Heimdall is utilizing their Brotherhood wing in an attempting to change the Lyran political narrative.
