Yep, I'm still around and breathing.
Its been a while. I am going to be an "assault sniper" for my squad. I don't know if such a role exists in any of the US armed forces, but the idea is mixing most of the accuracy of a sniper with the volume of fire of an assault rifle. Quite the concept, and works too, as practice has shown again and again in the near-constant fighting here.
I am done with half of my basic training and I was sworn in as a soldier of the IDF last thursday. It was quite the ceremony, held in the old city of jerusalem. Here's the translated text of the oath:
"I hereby swear and promise upon my honor
to remain loyal to the state of Israel
to its laws and government
and accept upon myself without regret or condition
the burden of the discipline of the Israel Defense Force
to obey all orders and instructions
given to me by my commanders
and devote all my strength
and even give my life for the protection of my homeland
and the freedom of Israel."
There. Quite heavy. Now if war breaks out. I'm in it.
As usual, wish me good luck and good hunting.

hmmm assault rifle sniping? im not sure ive ever heard of such a concept (judging as from how most assault rilfes are inaccurate from range, i suppose). Does that mean that you have a variable mode weapon, such as one-shot, burst-fire, full-auto, etc.? As far as I know, the U.S. Military uses snipers/spotters with one shot rifles, not assault rifles...but then what do i know? heh.
and goodluck with the situation over there; it seems to me in the U.S. that war seems imminent over there
