After experimenting with Rotary Gauss Cannons, Extra Extra Light Gauss Cannons, and Railguns, ZootD00d Design Corp discovered that there was little to no demand for extremely large ammo-using weapons for long range, as since their developments were easily surpassed by LRMs, Streak LRMs, ELRMs, and Thunders. So, ZootD00d Design Corp decided to focus on the very small and short-ranged world of magnetically propelled weaponry. They discovered that most people were using either Machine Guns, Flamers, or Small Pulse Lasers as short-ranged weapons. MGs were too large for their weight and carried a monstrous amount of volatile ammunition. Flamers and Small Pulse Lasers each generated too much heat to be useable against anything more than the occasional infantry unit wandering around, and were not useful for fending off huge swarms of them. ZDDC therefore applied magnetic weaponry principles to a new kind of anti-infantry weapon that developed no heat and also had no volatile ammo. Their prototype Repeating Needler proved to already be a superior alternative to the Machine Gun.

Repeating Needler - 1 crit, 1 ton
Ammo - 50 shots per 1crit/1ton unit.
Range: 0-2 short, 3-4 medium, 5-6 long
Damage: 2, 2d6 versus unarmored infantry
Special Rules: If the Repeating Needler itself takes a critical hit, then it explodes for 5 damage.

The Repeating Needler is basically a very small Gauss Cannon with the ammunition constantly pouring into the firing chamber. The needles constantly spit out and embed themselves into the bodies of unarmored infantry as it fires. It can also do a fair job of taking off all the paint and seriously scratching up the body of a mech. It makes a "bup-bup-bup-bup-bup" sort of noise which is actually pretty quiet, and the only way to tell that one is shooting at you is if you either see some kind of dull blinking, or if you start hearing the dull thudding noise of the needles smacking through flesh.

Behind The Scenes:
I took a Clan Light Machine Gun, multiplied it by 4, and then considered the lack of any ammo explosion and the single crit to make up for the relatively low damage (compared to 4 Clan LMGs).
Lousy good-for-nothing mortals. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

Try 0.75t, maybe; as it stands, I'd far rather have a Medium Laser.

Great idea, though!

Looks good to me.

One of the fun things about small-caliber needle projectiles is that when they hit soft, dense material like flesh, they tend to bend and tumble. They stay rather rigid when hitting harder targets, like armor.

the Auto Grenade launcher is SXDF's answwer to the ZootD00d Design Corp's auto needler. SX decided to take a lesson from 2oth century technology by making an auto firing frag grenade launcher.

weight 0.5
crits 1
ammo 20
damage 1, 4D6 vs. infantry
shrot 0-2
medium 3-4
long 5-6
extreme 7-8

also SX president DIablo would like to point out the use of special SRM and LRM munitions and the even rarer use of MRM's to kill infantry. SX is also exparamenting with several other systems including mech-carried infantry and light, automatic gauss rifles.
