Okay a big what if...
What if the Skye area of the Lyran Commonwealth actually did manage to gain it's independance from the LC, what would happen?
Would it be attacked by Kurtia or the Lyrans? Or would Marik come charging in to try and take it?
Or would it be able to do some kind of deal that ends up allowing it to exist like the FRR?

Skye is the strongest and most prosperous region of the Lyran Commonwealth and the source of its military might.
That being as it is, it could be left alone long enough to establish itself for the price of a simple pledge of neutrality. The Mariks and Dracs would far rather sack and loot the LC than engage the Skye Rangers and the production of the Hesperus II facility.
The only thing I'd be worried about in that position is Davion Agression.

Agreed, but it's far too important to leave alone. I think that the Lyrans would snag it back real fast unless the separation was engineered by Davion or Kurita, in which case it would maitain a veneer of independance and be a puppet of the responsable House. Kinda like Tikonov, really.

You're denying one of our assumptions.
Bad logic.
Skye has not only DECLARED but GAINED its independence from the Lyran Commonwealth, implying that the Lyrans TRIED but were UNABLE, for whatever reason, to "snag it back real fast."
Given the concentration of skill and might in the Skyre region, this is not as incredible as it sounds.

OK, so the LC couldn't gain it back.........
In that case it'd be a tough nut to crack for any House. My thoughts are that Marik, Kurita, and possibly Davion would not hit it first. It has a small number of worlds (comparitivly speaking) and a huge 'Mech production capasity. In fact, it's industrial cappasity as a whole is robust. In other words, there are easier targets around and these would likely be hit first.
If the Isle dug in and consolidated, it would be one of the major powers in the inner sphere, espicially if we're talking about the 3070's or even *shudder* MWDA times.
All this assumes, of course, that the whole seccession was not planed by one of the other major players. In this case, it'd be a puppet.
BTW, which time frame are we talking about for this to happen in? It makes a huge difference.
