The Legionnaire was an obscure 'mech by 3025, but it was extremely common during its Star League-era heyday. Few Inner Sphere garrisons and planetary militias lacked the mech; they were also numerous in the Rim Worlds Republic.
The Star League-era Legionnaire (revived in 3064 by the Magistracy of Canopus) was a lackluster but effective garrison mech that competed directly with the Centurion in the middle weight line mech class. However, its dependence on advanced materials would be its downfall during the Succession Wars. Without endosteel, it had to sacrifice firepower and armor. Without DHS, it was a heat pig. Without both of those, the Legionnaire fell out of favor and was replaced by the Centurion and Thunderbolt in Successor State armies.
Used in quantity, though, the Star League-era Legionnaire was an effective, versatile mech. Its main weapon was the potent Donal PPC, which provided heavy, ammunition-free firepower. Its secondary weapon was the Doombud LRM 20 in the opposite torso, which gave the 50-ton mech heavy long ranged firepower in concert with the PPC. Secondary weapons include a triplet of medium lasers. This was all protected by as much armor as a 50-ton mech could carry and CASE.
Centuries later (MWDA), the name would be revived on a completely different model of mech.
MBM-3R Legionnaire 50 tons 2.5 tons endosteel structure 8.5 tons 200 Nissan fusion engine ....Walking: 4 ....Running: 6 ....Jumping: 0 1 tons 11 DHS 2 tons gyroscope 3 tons cockpit 10.5 tons armor ....Head: 3 9 ....CT: 16 25/6 ....RT/LT: 12 18/6 ....RA/LA: 8 16 ....RL/LL: 12 24 7 tons ER PPC (RA) 10 tons LRM 20 (LT) 3 tons 3x Medium Lasers (LA) 2 tons LRM ammo (LT) .5 tons CASE (LT) DHS crits: 2 RT/RA Endosteel crits: 2 RL/LL, 5 LA, 5 RT Both hand actuators present
VARIANTS The Star League model occasionally replaced two medium lasers with an SRM 2 for faster vehicle kills and versatility.
The typical Succession Wars-era Legionnaire lost the endosteel and DHS. It also removed a half ton of armor off the legs and two medium lasers. The last factory production run was near the end of the Second Succession War, leaving Legionnaires to dwindle into obscurity.
The Magistracy is producing the Legionnaire in two forms: the original Star League model and a model with an SRM 2.

Cool design! Nice play on Legionaire/Centurion and the competition in the mech marketplace. Decent design, similar but yet different from the parent design. I like it. When I get a chance (say next billion years, due to work ) I would like to give it a test drive.

DIdn't realize I did...odd. I came up with my version of this mech after trying to tweak another mech and ended up with a whole new mech, the name was one of looking through a book I have on the Roman War Machine and it sorta said use me.
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the MWDA Legionnaire a one weapon mech?

Yes, mounting a single RAC/5 in, get this, the center torso. The RAC/5 takes up 5 crits, and since the design uses a XL engine, it means that even with a compact gyro, there is still not enough space in the center torso to mount the weapon. Which is why I asked if anyone has an idea of what it is supposed to be.

Nope. I chalk it up to another oops from MWDA and the fact that someone forgot to double check things.
I do believe they later fixed it by moving it to arm or the RT.

I sorta like that design, it fills the whole inexpensive, all-purpose medium mech... Good blend of speed an firepower for its tonnage and technology base.

I am guess it's suppose to the be the side torso...but then again since WK won't let FP do up record sheets it means we won't really know and thus we get cheesy designs.
