Built by Blue Nose Clipperships of Mars, the 800-meter vessel was among the new vessels commissioned under General Rebecca Fredasa's New Arms Order of 2735. That order came after Mother Jocasta Cameron assumed control of the Star League. Under her predecessor, Lord Jonathan Cameron, the Star League Defense Force had fallen into neglect as massive money was spent on the automated space-defense system that would prove so ineffective during the Amaris Coup. As a result, the SLDF had been losing ground to the militaries of the League's member states for several years. General Fredasa's declaration called for a large-scale upgrading of the SLDF's ships and weapons, and the Sovetskii Soyuz was one of several designs to emerge. Making use of the latest Star League technology, the Sovetskii Soyuz employed an unprecedented level of computer control, but its most distinctive feature remains its formidable arsenal. Naval autocannons provide the Sovetskii Soyuz's main offensive power, and an impressive array of naval lasers and particle cannons provide substantial long-range firepower, which often proves especially valuable during extended battles. However, to attain this level of firepower and still maintain adequate maneuverability, the designers had to reduce the vessel's armor to 744 tons. Many officers feared such light armor would result in the swift destruction of the WarShips, but the Sovetskii Soyuz's excellent long-range firepower proved sufficient to keep threats at a distance. Many of the original 400 Sovetskii Soyuz Class vessels were destroyed during the long campaign to liberate Terra, but about forty survived and left with the Exodus fleet. The majority of these eventually became the core of the Clan fleet. One of these vessels, the SLS Kharkov, would later be renamed the Dire Wolf and serve as the flagship of the Wolf Clan. The Clan version of the Sovetskii Soyuz has a fifth docking hardpoint along the vessel's spine, and a lithium-fusion battery system. The Clan Soyuz also carries two full Stars of OmniFighters. The armor has been improved to ferro-aluminum, which reduces the tonnage of the armor. The Snow Ravens, though have decided to take modification of the Sovetskii Soyuz to a new level with what they call thier MK II refit, as before with the other MK II refits, the Sovetskii Soyuz, main weapons was only lightly upgraded, while a suite of AA/AD/AM weapons was installed, armor was upgraded to Lamellor Ferro-carbide and increased from 978 tons of Ferro Aluiminium to 1,328 tons of Lamellor Ferro-carbide, the resulting improvement of armor protection was gladly accepted by the ships captains, but the greatest change in this MK II refit was the decision of the increasing the ships speed, this was also to prove to be the most challenging fortunatly for the Snow Ravens, the old Star League had designed their warships for the posibbility of high grav stress during combat, even though the Sovetskii Soyuz was not really a fast ship this design philosphy was incorperated into the ship class, thus with a lot of computer sim time the Snow Ravens came to the conclusion that indeed the design would be capable of accepting the proposed upgrade with its exsisting structure, hence savings would be earned to offset the cost of upgrading the ships engines.
==Capabilities:== The capabilities of the MK II Refit compared to the older design are readily apparent first there is the upgrading of the number and bore size of the ships NAC's, going from 12 NAC/20's to 16 NAC/25's, also the old designs compliment of NL-45's was upgraded to NL-55's and 2 more were added bringing the total to 8, also was the removal of the ships old Killer Whale and Barracudda Missile launchers, these in turn were replaced by 12 AR-10 Launcher's to give the ship increased flexibility. Lastly was the upgradeding of 4 of the old designs MNPPC's to HNPPC's on the broadsides aspects of the ship to provide extra fire power with out increasing the number of weapons. Also in the refit was the addition of AA/AD/AM energy weapons in the form of 64 ER PPC's and 80 Micro Pulse Lasers. The armor of the refit is also greatly enhanced by the increase of armor tonnage and refiting from Ferro Aluminium to LFC armor and hence more than doubling the ships armor protection, bringing the ship to modern cruisers standards. The major change to the ship was the increase of thrust rating, the design went from a 1g thrust and 1.5g overthrust to a new speed of 1.5g thrust to a 2.5g overthrust, to handle this increased speed the ships fuel tankerage was increased to 6,000 tons to allow the ship to take advantage of its new speed. Other aspects of the Refit are the increase of ships fighters from 20 to 30 and the addition of 20 points of Battle Armor. From a finacial aspect the refit was very cost efficent, with a final cost of 663,000,000 million cbills.
