Ya, I'd thought of that, but decided against it. I cast for the purpose of using them, and so I paint the mini's. Precious metals would be wasted, in my case.
And if you want to, that casting course could probably teach you how to make any mini you wanted to.

You know what would be really neat? Making battlemech candles by putting a wick in the mould at the time of pouring the wax. You could even use the colour of the house you want it in (yeah I know I'm sick ).

The perfect gift for the fanatical gamer on your list.....
And of course you could take the used candles and have them represent the 'Mech after and ammo explosion.....

Well the idea is right up there with Choccytech: The eating wargame. In this particular instance you eat the damage that is done to your unit thus your objective is to lose your mechs or eat the damage you do to your opponents .
Now for my sickest idea ... soap on a rope mechs. Sure you need a bigger mould but consider the 'coolness' factor of lathering up with a warhammer .

Well, we didn't learn how to make the wax model, we just bought the wax shape already made then went from there. But it's not all that difficult to make the wax is it?
I can't afford the precious metals right now either, but it's something to think about in the future. At least until I get married and she doesn't let me get any mini's period. But then I could just make my own with the casting and give her jewelry I make just to keep her happy.

Remember, gold plating, if done well, weighs about the same as solid gold, but uses up much less of the gold you bought to make a deluxe Timbrewolf.

Well, the hard part is the mold. Once the mold is right, you just have to remember to get the wax hot enough to fill every crevase in the mini.

If you still have the pieces, you can fix it. Get a pin vice drill, and a little of the wire that comes with so many mini's. Drill a small hole (1/8in) into each side of the break, then glue the small piece of wire into the hole on the broken off limb. Let it dry. Then glue the piece of wire into the mini. It comes out stronger than the original.

"she will never know the difference, unless she gets it professionally appraised"
With my luck she(whoever she ends up being) would. But plating the mechs with gold would probably be a more practical way of deluxing them. Or at least cheaper. I'd have to read up a little to get that right; it would be more expensive equipment-wise but cheaper in the long run.
