==Overview:==
The SLDF Periphery uprising asessment caused a ripple with the high command.
General Kerensky himself had been aware of this weakness and implemented plans
he had drawn up nearly a decade earlier for a fast-striking mech.

Many mech units operating in the Periphery were often the victim of
well-planned ambushes designed to cause heavy damage, before the agressors
would scatter and withdraw. Conventional fire support was too slow and light
pursuing mechs often fell prey to secondary ambushes.

In order to counter this threat the SLDF deployed a number of new machines
such as the Damocles and the Backstabber.

==Capabilities:==
The Backstabber was designed as a fast strike mech carrying substantial
firepower for a machine this light. The twin PPC's had only been on on Heavy
mechs until then.

The Backstabber was designed to operate in small independent units, patrolling
until they were called upon. They would rush to the scene of an ambush and
lend support to the beleaguered units and could be sent to pursue to the enemy
if needed.

Well armed and fast, the Backstabber was a deadly mech. It could take on
almost any light and medium head on, while it could outmaneuver any heavy and
assault, usually trying to attack the more weakly armoured rear since, living
up to its name.

Surprisingly the Backstabber was never paired with the Damocles, a mech
designed for similar purposes.

==Battle History:==
The Backstabber came late to participate in the Periphery uprising, but it
proved to be a most capable fighting machine.

The most famous engagement happened between a lance of Backstabbers and a
lance composed of Warhammers and Marauders.

Using their superior mobility the Backstabbers harassed the enemy at long
range, keeping on the move. Slowly the heavy lance was worn down and three
machines were destroyed with only the loss of a single Backstabber. The
surviving Marauder, pock-marked with several PPC impact scars defied his
enemies to destroy him. The Backstabbers closed in and fired 6 PPC's
simultaniously, instantly destroying the Marauder.

==Deployment==
Of the 300 or so Backstabbers produced, none survived beyond the second
succession war. Many followed Kerensky's exodus.

The factory was damaged during the civil war, only to be destroyed during the
1st succession war, subsequently rebuilt and destroyed again during the 2nd
succession war.

Comstar files show that the SLDF received less than 100 Backstabbers and that
the remaining 200 were were lost during transport to Camelot Command in the
Dark Nebula. For centuries treasure hunters have searched in vain for the
lost transports. Even at the height of the Clan invasion did people
recklessly enter Clan space in search of long lost SLDF treasure.

Oh, I like it.

Even the price is okay. At least I think so.

IŽll order a dozen of it. Oops, there are no Backstabbers left.
A shame.

Really a cool Mech.

Although late for full production during the Jihad, the 1X model became available in small numbers to Republic forces, until the introduction of the 2A model, which replaced the PPC's with Snub-nosed versions and added a single medium laser for close range defence.

Fast and deadly, the backstabber is a potent cavalry mech, outflanking the enemy. Capable of operating for extended periods without supply the Backstabber is the perfect raider, capable of wreaking havoc to supply lines and reserve forces.

Another variant, the 1B replaces both PPC's with quad Light PPC's and has proven to be very effective against BA and light vehicles.
