Under contract to House Liao, Jason was introduced to the mercenaries whom he saw were "tools" for his plans. He had little respect for the mercenaries under his employ and passed his mother's ideas as his own. Jason was shown to be hot-headed when he insisted on attacking House Davion directly rather than weakening them. Cho also showed that he was an incompetent commander during the campaign as many of his plans backfired. This would cause his mother to offer a ceasefire to House Steiner as a result. To Cho's chagrin, he was forced to bring the Mercenary forces as an honor guard should things go awry. As Renard and Cho both discussed starting an alliance, they both agreed that they should focus their efforts on Major Kelly of House Davion. But for the actions against House Steiner, Renard would expect a price from Jason: the death of the Mercenaries. Jason joyfully accepted the offer, sealing the deal between the two.<ref>MechCommander 2, Liao Campaign</ref>
