Until the rise of piracy and banditry that resulted from the mass drawdowns of the various [[Inner Sphere]] militaries as a result of the formation of the [[Star League]], the [[Outworlds Alliance]] had no need of a state-level military force, and the Alliance was such a remote nation that it was only in the early to mid-twenty-sixth century that the Outworlds Alliance had expanded to the point where its border worlds were within easy jump distance of the outer borders of the [[Draconis Combine]] and [[Federated Suns]].
