What do you folks think is smallest size crew you can have a BT aerospace ship and still be able to fly it, use the weapons and keep it running?
By Crew I am refereing to officers, gunnerys, and the actual crew personal themselves.
Comments? Ideas? Better way of doing things?

Small craft? One. Larger craft? At least one pilot and one gunnery position per firing arc, and at least one engineer with a couple of astech for damage control.

Ditto--though with good enough computers one should be enough even for large craft.

Doesn't seem to be that way, the rules seem to be point toward having an officer or two per every 12 gunners once you put weapons on board the ship...

Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you meant "what do *you* think is the minimum crew required," instead of "what is the rule for minimum crew."

Ah, there would be officers and such. The crew I listed was a skeleton. Beyond that, it would depend on the navy. Also, I didn't take into account the crew nessesary to keep the ship running. Routine maintenence and back-ups for gunners and pilots would expand the crew greatly. And a captain to make decitions, of course.

the what do you think question...
What is the miniumum number of crew needed to run a 800 ton ship or bigger and what is the max?
What do you think it is?

Flying, fighting, or cruising over extended periods?
If the former, 0. If the middle, still 0, though 1 would be better. If the latter, 1 (just so there's still a human in the loop if something unexpected comes along).

The ship is an Assault Lander aerodyne shape and carries infantry and light vehicles... LRMs and PPCs are it's weapons.

Byt he rules:
4 + 1 per 5,000 tons.
For your lander, thats 5 crew total, not including gunners.
In your case, 4 gunners.
Nine crew total - of which one would be an officer.
By the rules, of course. There is nothing to stop you adding more.
As for what thyey are:
1 captain - the officer
2 pilots
3 engineers
4 gunners
As for whether this is acceptable or not....I couldn't say.

Seems way to small a number...given that computer tech is not that great in the game, unless that's changed and FASA failed to mention it...

As i said, I can't say whetehr the numbers too small or not. I do knwo the guns are mostly remoites, albeit with the ability to be manned in an emergency. So, the 4 gunners basically boil down to perhaps one gunnery station on the bridge, selcting priority targets and managing output and so on.
Or, perhaps because its so small, they do maintenance while its docked. After all, what sort of maintenance does the Space Shuttle crew crew do in orbit?
