The First Hussars had a reputation for putting the good of the Commonality ahead of themselves and for using the minimum necessary force when investigating crimes, earned during the first years of their deployment and maintained carefully throughout the two centuries since. While the soldiers of the Fifth Hussars were considered to be of good character, by 2765 they still had little experience of either peacekeeping operations or combat, and the greatest strengths of the regiment were limited to ceremonies and drill. This was an improvement on the Third Hussars, who were considered to be actively corrupt by the local population, but left the Fourth lagging behind the Fifth Hussars.<ref name="FR:CC2765"/>

Despite two hundred years of dedicated effort by the numerous commanders of the various regiments of Andurien Hussars, the Fourth Hussars found itself with a difficult situation to manage after its founding; as a whole, the Andurien Hussars were generally well-regarded. Many of the personnel within the Andurien Hussars were still Sianese or Capellan in origin, although natives of the Andurien Commonality made up slightly more than half of the strength of the Hussars. However, while the average citizen of the Commonality regarded the Hussars as a slightly foreign regiment imposed upon them by the Capellan government, those Sianese and Capellan soldiers within the Hussars were considered to be generally honorable warriors whilst those Andurien natives within the Hussars were regarded as undisciplined thugs and opportunists pandering themselves. This created an underlying feeling of tension that constantly bubbled between the Hussars and the local population even two centuries after the formation of the Hussars and affected the newly-raised Fourth Hussars directly.<ref name="FR:CC2765"/>
